Ok I got a new ipod, but I don't like the ear bud things. I'm looking for the most comfortable headphones around, stuff that won't make my ears ache after a long listening session.. Something on the smaller light weight side. Excellent sound too, and able to hear table conversations when the volume is low.. I don't want to seal off the outside noise. Any suggestions?

thx.. BB

I disagree - this question clearly does not fit in any other forum on 2+2. He simply forgot to censor the p-word.

And by the way - to the OP, I have no clue.

You got a pass. There's been a TON of headphone posts in the last month or so. Try a search?

i just got these (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000095SB6/104-9618696-8541521?v=glance) in the mail yesterday and i like them a lot. good sound, fit nice and snug...i guess the only negatives you'll see is durability...i think they're great for the price though...

you've got to have a budget for these things. Etymotics, makes amazing earbuds. But you've got to decide many things.

Closed headphones - these isolate you from "noise" outside factors

Open headphones - these allow sound from the outside, a likely choice.

you need to choose headphones/earbuds/earphones.

Very true. I've got a pair of Sony headphones that I bought a year or so ago that actually produce very good sound...the problem though is that I can't hear a damn thing besides the music because they completely cover my ears. I had to pull them off after a half an hour of live play because I couldn't follow what was going on at the table. Besides, they make you look like Lando Calrissian's sidekick.

Great for online play though.

How are those compared to some of the lower Grado models?

I believe it's impossible to beat Grado SR60 in its price range, however it's unlikely that an iPod can pull them off.

Sennheiser make a good pair of open air headphones. Probably run you 4 bills or so though.

get the sennheiser hd590s, these are so so comfortable and have great sound, been using them for many years. i also have the quietcomfort 2s which are not as comfortable (though not bad) and are not as good sounding (though not bad), but are amazing for airplanes and noisy things.

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 580s which sound great. But you might want to follow the other suggestions to check out the Etymotics. I've heard nothing but great things about their sound.

The audiophiles get grumpy about these, but they're comfortable over long periods, so I have them, too. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006LK1O/104-2872724-9137524?v=glance)

grados are some of the lowest impedance headphones sold on the market. they dont need an amp by any means, and they benefit from an amp much less then something like the sennheiser hd580, which i use AMPED.

Koss Porta-Pro. Lifetime warranty. Sounds better than most headphones that cost hundreds. $60 price tag.

Trust me.

sennheisers or beyerdynamic for cans. in ear monitors for earphones.

the bose triports break way too easily, but the quietcomforts seem pretty good (though i'd recommend senns over them).

if you know whats good for you you'll get yourself a pair of sennheiser hd600/650s and a decent ($250ish) tube amp to power it. best headphone/amp combo for under a grand, no question.

I'm not a huge headphone nerd, so I should have said "the original poster most likely means that the headphones in question would need an amp."
