So I was caught cheating on the 2003 tax form. I get all these forms in the mail asking for around 50K for stock returns in ameritrade that I "forgot" to put on my return. I call the IRS and the dude goes, hey man how much do you think you owe. I go, oh I dunno like $1500. He says ok, I'll send you a bill. Just pay it and be done. I love the IRS. Am I the only one whose ever been audited?

I had one phone me up about a business audit, and I used the old jedi mind trick.
'You don't want to see our books...'
'Yeah, I don't want to see your books...'

Seriously, when he phoned, I started it off by saying something like 'boy, you sound really busy...'

This got going on a conversation where he basically told me what he does, how overworked he was, how he can get more done (by rubberstamping some of the returns), and stuff like that. I was his friend, his pal, I was on his side, making it easy for him. And I persuaded him just putting ours through was to everyone's benefit.

Don't you just love it? I thought I was going to be locked away or something. I bought Nortel when it was .48 and sold it at over $6/share. I thought nobody would notice if I "forgot" to put this on the form. I was suprised that they caught me and I just blamed it on TurboTax software.

I'd bet money that you just dialed the wrong number.

No man I didnt dial the wrong number because i already got the bill and paid it. Plus when the IRS answers the employee must give you his tax ID number. It took me some time to realize that this government would never want to put me away. I paid more in taxes last year than most people make.

You were probably supposed to pay about $1200 before you volunteered $1500.

Maybe if you bought a house, instead of renting, you would see some tax savings.

I do own a house, but may sell in a year or so.....And no, I didn't owe 1200 before asking. It was over a 10 fold increase in my original purchase of NT stock.
