I was just sitting at work, waiting for something to do, and I caught myself daydreaming about going to the movies when I get done tonight. Popcorn. Mountain Dew. Snickers Poppables. MMMMMMM.

Anyways, got me thinking: What's the first movie you ever went to see at the theater?

For me, it was Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back, in Oshkosh, WI, when I was almost 4 years old. Great memory. Went with my dad - the first of many movie trips we've made together over the years.

How about you guys?

a re-issue of Peter Pan when I was 4...my Uncle Mike took me. We're talking 1967...i remember being awestruck at the size of the theater...biggest room of all-time! and what's this? a counter that serves nothing but candy, soda and popcorn?? Holy crap!

And then the movie started and I thought I was watching actual magic.

One of my favorite memories.

My Dad took me to see Jaws when it came out. I was 6. First movie I went to. The shrieking and jumping in the audience was something I never forgot. Only when Schindler's List came out in '93 did I see reactions from an audience that were as pronounced. At Schindler's List I saw a couple of fights break out between older folks and kids who were laughing. Spielberg, if anything, is a master exploiter of the audience.

It was either ET or the Jungle book. The thing I do remember was that there was an intermission when they sold icecream.

I like how back in the late 70s and early 80s for the first Star Wars movies, ET, Raiders of the Lost Ark, etc. it would be like "Now playing in its 18th amazing week!!!" These days the movies are in and out in a week and on DVD the next month.

I totally remember that. Huge ads in the newspaper - "HELD OVER for an astonishing 26th week ... CROCIDILE DUNDEE!!!"

Song of the South - that old musical (Disney?) with the song

"Zippadee doo da, Zippadee ay,
My oh my what a wonderful day.
Plenty of sunshine heading my way,
Zippadee doo da, Zippadee ay

Mr. Bluebird on my shoulder...."

This was decades ago. A few years back, I heard that movie is considered to be somewhat racist now (like earlier Bugs Bunny cartoons). I don't remember anything about the movie except that song.

The first movie I ever say in the theatre was Pinoccio when I was 5. However, on a much cooler note; the first "R" rated movie I saw in the theatre was Judge Dredd. It was a glorious day for a 12 year old..... I was finally a man!

This isn't exactly what you asked but when I was 8 my friend Vic's mom took us to 'Bonnie and Clyde' for Vic's birthday party (I'm old obviously). I was, frankly, changed for life after watching that.

My next life-changing movie moment was when my dad and I went to a movie for the first time, just the two of us. I was 13 and it was The Godfather. [censored]-yeah dad, you rock, RIP.

I can remember everything about both of those experiences right down to what kind of candy I had and where I sat.

Funny the things that stick with you over a lifetime.

The Cheech n Chong movie where they smoke dogshit. Gawd I couldn't stop laughing. Me and my little sister went with our aunt and uncle. My sister and aunt couldn't stand it and left. Me and my uncle almost pissed our pants laughing. Oh yea, the scene where Cheech pisses on the cop was one of my favorites too.

Mine is the Aristocats, but this made me laugh.

Summer after high school, my buddy and I were so baked he forgot everything. The next day I would say something about the movie, the mechanical owl or something, and he'd be, "Really? I don't remember." Then I'd rofl because we were baked again, of course. We saw it about four more times. I still enjoy it on TV whenever I can catch it.

IF you're talking about the Jungle Book, you could be right. I often find myself standing in the middle of nowhere with buddies, saying stuff like 'what you wanna do?', 'I dunno, what you wanna do?','I dunno...' etc etc

I saw Bambi at some point in my childhood, but the one I remember for sure was King Kong. This was back in the days when a movie would only play in one theatre per town. My dad took my brother (4) and I (6) to a matinee, but the line was around the block. We got special permission to stay up late and ended up going to a showing that night.

Also remember being scared shitless by a Boggy Creek movie. I thought it was the original, but according to IMDB, that came out when I was 2. I doubt I would remember that far back. It was probably the sequel, which came out in '77 (when I was 7).
