I wasn't sure which forum to post this question. I'm in the Chicago area. Our two casinos that have poker are terrible. The dealers pool their tips so the poor dealers don't get weeded out. I would say the the majority of dealers, especially at the Harrah's are slow and do a poor job of dealing. On top of that, we pay a $5 rake. The Harrah's gives $1/hr comp money and the Hollywood gives nothing (even water is 50 cents a bottle). I play $20-40 hold 'em at these two places.

Recently I discovered the home game scene. I've played $15-30 a few times. The rake is $3-4. I tip a $1, so I'm paying $4-5 per hand that I win. At the casino, I tip 50 cents, so I'm paying $5.50 per hand. At the home games, I would estimate that we get about double the amount of hands per hour that we do at the casinos.

Both the casino and home venues are about equally loose. The home games give free food.

Right now, I'm trying to figure out where I'll make more money. I think I might do better in the home games because I'm getting more hands per hour. The limit is lower, but I recall that Mason wrote that he believed one could make the same amount at a $15 hold 'em game that one could make at a $20 hold 'em.
Can I just base the decision on distance to the game? Some of these home games are closer. I have to drive about 1 hour to get to the casinos.
Another factor is that I get right in the home games. AT the boats, I have to wait 1 hour or so to get in the games.
What about the danger of getting robbed at the home games? I think the danger is almost nonexistant at the casino.

Are there any other factors you would consider when making this decision?
I would appreciate any feedback on this matter. Thanks.
