View Full Version : Pocket A's early in Tourney

10-12-2005, 08:14 PM
This hand was still very early in a PS $1 SNG. I would have raised rather than limped, but the previous hand I raised 3x BB with AQs and didn't want to scare potential bets off. Should I have betted/played differently?

This is the MTT forum...

Raise preflop, just like u did w/ AQs. You should have reraised when he raised. Even AA is very vulnerable with many people in the pot with you.

u shouldve raised, but once u limp, pull a limp reraise and build a pot.

You limped, got lucky that someone raised, and now you just call and take five people with you to the flop? /images/graemlins/confused.gif
I don't even want to look at what happened post flop, this hand was slaughtered pre-flop, and its a guessing game from there on with 5 people in the hand beside you.

in a 1 dollar tourny you can actually just push all ur chips preflop and potentially get 4 callers. good luck in those things

Matador, it was a 45 man/5 table SNG that's a multi table right? Not being a facetious, I just dont' see any SNG specific threads. Villan was actually all-in with his raise, I could only call the final 290.

I guess I should add too that these $1+.20 5 table SNG's are fairly loose passive at the begginning in general. This hand was only a couple mintues into the 2nd tier blinds. Play too aggressive with a good hand and you only end up with $45 in blinds. I generally have success smooth calling a hand like that early on and luring several others to build a pot. This time I got caught.

Agreed.

Dont play AA like this ever again.

You have to reraise preflop if you limp UTG. You blew this by not doing that. You can probably jam in a $1 and get a call or two.
Once I hit the set of aces, I get it all in too, but everything is so much easier with proper preflop play.

There's no doubt you screwed this one up. That's ok. Now, you're compounding it by not admitting you screwed it up. That is not ok. If you really want to improve, you have to be honest with yourself. Don't make excuses. (It's a life lesson, too.)

I do admit I screwed up. Otherwise, why would I post the hand here and ask for advice? I have leaks in my game and when I question a move I post my hands here and I get ripped pretty good usually lol. But what I learn is invaluable. The post you responded too, all I was doing was adding more information about the situation - just to see if that added or changed anyones opinion. It certainly wasn't an excuse, or intended to be taken as one. Trust me, just look at a couple other hands I donked on and you'll see I bend over and take it like a man lol.
