I was wanting to make a trip to Barona this weekend to check it out. Anyone been? How's the poker action? Do they have Pai Gow?

This was going to be a scouting trip, I maybe taking my parents if it has every thing we're looking for. Looking for Pai Gow, my dad likes to play that. Decent poker for me, low limit HE; and my brother, mid-high limit HE. Slots for mom. I checked barona's website; it mentioned 54 gaming tables, but no specifics. They do mention slots, so mom's covered.

Their rooms were all booked this weekend, can someone recommend a place nearby that I can stay at so I can check the place out this weekend.

Also, any good food recommendations would be appreciated, as well.

Thanks in advance

Upon closer inspection of the website I found that they do have Pai Gow Poker. So, that covers mom and dad as far as activities.

Would still like info. on HoldEm and good places to eat. Oh yeah, and a place to stay at nearby.

Thanks to anyone who can help

editted to include info on place to stay

I lived in San Diego for 15 but moved away 3.5 years ago. Barona is kind of out in the sticks so there wasn't anything really close. I didn't play poker when I lived in SD, but my recollection is that Barona didn't have poker. If they do have it, it will be low limit. My understanding is that about the only place that regurally spreads mid-limits in SD county is Ocean's 11.

I currently live in San Diego and although I have not visited Barona Casino during my time here, I am pretty sure it has no poker room. The Sycuan and Viejas casinos both have pretty good games however if you are willing to go a little farther out of your way. Each may be a little farther away from downtown that Ocean's 11 although I don't think the differance is too great. 3-6, 4-8, 5-10 and 20-40 can be found at both since I last checked (although I must admit I have played at neither for several months) I belive both have pai gow and both also have slots of course. Hope this helps.

After closer inspection of their website I found out that they do have a 10 table poker room. They did a major remodel, which completed I think around Jan. of this year. They've been running commercials on TV in Los Angeles, Kenny Rogers is their spokesperson.

I'm probably going make the drive out on Saturday even without a room and just spend some time there and drive back the same day. I'll check the web for info on the other casinos in the area and take addresses with me in case I get bored and want to venture to another establishment.

I'll make a report here when I get back.

Thanks for the information Quixotic. And thanks again to rkiray.

I have never played at Barona. I think the highest they go at poker is 4-8 from what others tell me. Viejas is nearby in Alpine and goes up to 8-16 kill. I hear Barona is a nice place to stay.

Thanks for the info. I just got back from my trip. They actually have a 6-12 Kill HE. I'm working on my trip report I'll post it later in a new thread.
