I'm not looking to go pro, but I'm turning 21 tomorrow and I'm looking to set aside my bankroll. I'm planning on playing between 3/6 and 5/10. What should my bankroll start out at?

300 BB or big bets is standard so, 1,800 for 3/6, 3,000 for 5/10. GL.

You looking to go pro but you dont know how big your bankroll should be?

Hmmm good luck? /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

300BB - But if your going pro id want a cushion of 500BB... If you hit a downswing and this is where your cash in coming from i think you need "Spare" cash.

It should start out at $20, that's 500BB at .02/.04.

What kind of poker experience do you have? Are you talking about playing online or B&M?

As stated, the "standard" bankroll is 300 big bets for the highest level you intend to play; most people like to have a bit more than that to be on the safe side. However, this assumes that you are a winning player--if you aren't, then there is no such thing as a big enough bankroll. With this in mind, then unless you're one of those rich kids with a huge trust fund somewhere, I'd recommend starting at a lower limit as you gain more experience in the game. At least if you're talking about playing online, 3/6 & 5/10 are far from cakewalks.

Yup. After not listening to people like you and losing some at higher limits, I did as you suggest here, and am now actually REALLY learning what I am doing.

Your bankroll should start out at about 0 dollars. Grind it out at the online freerolls baby. A buddy of mine won a free satellite to a tourney and won it. Turned absoltely nothing into 5,000 in about 2 weeks.

I started with $100 at .50/1 limit about 9 months ago, now I have $10,000 and am playing 4 tables of $55 SnG's. Moral of the story start low and if you are good the results will follow, oh yeah try to win tournaments for big bankroll infusions. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you're not looking to go pro, then why did you title the thread 'All out poker career'?

Also - your bankroll considerations are completely irrelevant if you don't know yet whether you are a winning player. just a thought.

Well that is one way to go if you planing to play turneys. But it is not that good if you like to play cashgames.

Playmoneytables is one way to go untill you learned how the game works, but it wont give much skill. 0.02-0.04 is perfect..

5/10 at internet is much harder than in a B&M game....

Some .02-.04 games play like B&M 5/10.

yeh i mis-read it. From the title i basically assume you wanted to go pro "Career" and all.

i'm 18year old student, i actually started learning poker when i was 17 but then it was boring grinding so i quit. Come back later...

The beauty of this is, is that when you first start poker is SO FUN! Just learning what hands beat what... Seeing what the guys do, trying to guess their hands etc its fun.

The money(i.e. $.40cent pots) is irrelevent when i started. Also learning the game at .02/.04 is cheap "tuition" infact i lost $16, nearly went bankcrupt at that stakes.

Once you get to $30 you move up, then $60(Poker stars as .10/.20 tables). You'll get a $300 BR in a matter of weeks, Trust me....

When i started i didnt know anything abut casino whoring, nor bonuses... i grinded for months trying to get to .25/.50 tables whilst playing .05/.10.

$150 aim at .05/.10 = 1500BB!!!! It took me ages, But now theres .10/.20 tables, so speeds up.

Anyhow once i learnt bonus whoring/Casino whoring my bankroll increase by about $200 a week for a few weeks.

So you'll go from $20 to $300, maybe even $600 in a matter of weeks. Then you can buy pokertracker and all that.

Anyhow good luck,
Feel free to pm me if you want.
