View Full Version : Starting hands short handed?

I've recently been playing short handed a bit online (Party six-max tables) and am having some trouble adapting. Oftentimes these tables start heads up or 3-way and so you have to come in with a wide range of hands. But once the table fills, I find myself having trouble finding the right degree of "looseness" and agression - i.e. tightening up from heads up but loosening up from full table standards. Just how much does everyone loosen up when playing a six-max table? I think the tables are probably profitable - pre-flop seems to be extremely passive and then players get agressive.

Any thoughts are appreciated...

Play it like a full table where the first 4 people pass. By doing this you'll be playing a bit too conservatively, but not my much. Not enough to make a difference. Since the players are playing passively pre-flop you're biggest edge may be getting money in pre-flop when you choose to come in (which they're not doing), which would indicate a strategy of solid pre-flop play coming in with raises.
