View Full Version : KK gets donked, or too weak tight?

This is from a Stars $5.50 MTT. Villan seems pretty donkish, but hasn't really played many big hands. I felt dirty after I folded it, but it felt right. Was I wrong?

bet the flop. The hand will be much easier to play.

Fold. The only real hand you beat is QQ. If villain was bluffing, such is life.

Huh. Only QQ?

Well, a donk doesn't have to have a jack to make that bet. But a donk is also more likely to shove all-in with any big hand. So... I don't know.

In a 5 buck tourney QQ is the only real hand you beat? Wow. Terrible thinking.

Anyways, bet the flop ... and if you get called, play the turn as a WA/WB situation. There are no draws that he could be on, so I think this is correct.

As it happened, I think its a tough decision. This is the exact way a donk would play a J. They like to slowplay like they see on the television ... and then get all their money in on the turn. However, I really think he could be making this move with a T or a smaller pair as well.

My gut tells me fold, but my chips and the situation tells me to call. Id make this call a good portion of the time.

In white:
Villain shows [Jc Ac] (three of a kind, Jacks). Like I said, I threw up a little in my mouth as I hit fold, and then hugged myself when he showed. As many posters pointed out, I probably should have bet the flop, but probably would have lost either way. And, to clarify, most of the time this would be an instacall, but something just didn't feel right. Man's intuition, I guess.

At least if you bet the flop, you have a better idea of where you stand rather than checking the flop and betting the turn. Since you showed weakness on the flop after raising preflop, it's fairly likely that the ten didn't help you, so a good player could make this move based on your flop weakness.

Good fold.
