I recently bought John Nunn's "Understanding Chess Move By Move" (Gambit,2001). It's by far the best primer on Chess I have ever come across and that includes Kotov's classics.

Is this a reprint of Chernev's Logical Chess Move By Move? And did Nunn do the same hatchet job he did on 60 Memorable Games?

I have boycotted Nunn books since that fiasco.

Zurich, 1953. My System, Chess Practice, tactical cheapo training books, Pawn Stucture Chess by Soltis. Most of Soltis's books are good. From the Middlegame to the Endgame by the recently deceased Edmar Mednis.Botvinik's 100. The list goes on and on.........

No, this is an original book and, I repeat, a very good one, after one perusing.

"And did Nunn do the same hatchet job he did on 60 Memorable Games? I have boycotted Nunn books since that fiasco."

No hatchet job.

I must say I also hate anyone who dares come near and touch Bobby Fischer's classic, even if correcting typographical errors. The book is so alive with the spirit of true chess, it might be the best primer ever. "Here, you wanna know about Chess, read this one, it's all here."

But you are missing out on some nice things by "boycotting" the English GM's books.
