this is my first NL forum post. until now ive typically played NL only live and limit online... but thats changed recently. im still picking up the nuances of online nl play.

villian was very crazy up to this point... constantly mini raising preflop..... calling huge reraises then dumping... making odd bluffs... so it was the deciding variable in this hand. i was actually planning to check-raise almost any flop against this guy. he bets 75% of the time here, so his flop check surprised me.

on somewhat of a side note... does anyone not raise this preflop UTG?

I haven't raised AJ UTG in about 2 years. Limp or fold pre-flop. I would check and possibly call the turn.

I haven't folded AJ UTG in about 4 years. Limp or raise pre-flop.

I don't mind folding AQo, but folding AJo is standard for me, I'd just rather not play it.

Yeah, I did (was looking at the hand in question). For AJo, I consider all three options.

10 handed UTG I actually limp 100% of the time unless the game is super aggressive in which case I fold. I personally never raise but I am not pursuing any meta-game considerations in the games I play.

For this player who says he is inexperienced at NL I think folding AJs is slightly better than raising and worse than calling.

FWIW, when I open-raise AJs UTG (which is my default play), it is not because I am "pursuing any meta-game considerations."

Do you vary it based on the games EL D? For me it is very game, and position (relative to aggro/tight players) dependent. Also would you really raise this 10 handed in a tough, but very aggro game(as im sure many of the games you play in are)?

he showed KJo

i could never see this guy checking through a pair on the flop. so when he raises the turn i put him squarely on J-X. stupid of me?

Yes.

The call wasn't stupid however, as it is definitely possible that he has J-X, however i would say you are beat at least 50% of the time on the river (that still makes it an easy call).

Why didn't you push? If you put him on jx then your hand is ahead all the time. Might as well get your money in as a solid favorite. The other thing about pushing is that you still have alot of outs if he paired his ten and you won't have to call a river bet with ace high. What type of river bet were you planning on calling? This teaser bet makes ace high hard to fold, but do you call a 1/2 pot or full pot bet here?
