Do you have any good suggestions for me, I plan to play probably about a total of about 20-30 hours.
I know the basics and have played on-line and have done ok. I tend to be more nervous playing live but I am trying to be more calm.

If you're playing low-limit hold'em, I always reccomend the 4-8 games at the Monte Carlo and Mandalay Bay above all others.

I agree with Dynasty's recommendations.

If you're a tournament player, the Mandalay, Orleans and Luxor run daily tournaments.

I really liked the monte carlo also. Do you guys play there often? I spent a lot of time there the weekend I was in vegas (sweet 16 weekend of NCAA tourney) and wonder if I unknowingly played against any posters.

If you're playing the lower limits, the $3/$6 games at the Mirage are pretty darned soft. The dealers are good there and the room is non-smoking (which is the most important thing for me).

Like you, I play mostly online too. In order to combat the "big hand jitters" I experience the first session I play live during a trip, I sit with my arms crossed in front of me and both elbows on the table's rail. That way, nobody can see your hands. If you orally declare "raise," people are often busy looking at the next player(s) to act (assuming anyone's even paying attention) so they are less likely to see your hands when you reach for your chips. Just a thought . . . .

Doesn't either Monte Carlo or Mandalay Bay have a bunch of strange or strict rules? I thought I remembered reading a post of Clarkmeister's that said this.

Also, are those games structured- or spread-limit?

Last time I played at the Mandalay Bay in December,2002, the blinds were $1-$2 for the 4-8 game. All others were stndard rules.

The $4/$8 game uses $1 and $2 blinds, with the first pre-flop raise bumping it to $6. The rest of the game plays with standard bets of $4 on the flop and $8 on the turn and river. There's also a half-kill ($6/$12) triggered if someone wins two pots in a row.

Clarkmeister doesn't like certain rules at Mandalay Bay such as "If you check with chips in your hand in front of your cards, it's a bet".

Mandalay Bay is a structured game. Monte Carlo is a spread limit game.

Never been to vegas to play poker however I've talked to several players who have and they recommend the Orleans. Take it for what its worth....

It took a while for me to get used to a certain Vegas rule this past weekend: In Atlantic City, you can't check with chips in your hand. The reason is simple: you can't take chips out, guage your opponents' reactions and then decide to check instead. It seems like a good rule to me. But they don't have that rule in Vegas and I saw a lot of players doing it all weekend.

Right, that's the kind of thing I meant. I've only played in casinos a few times and the people with whom I'm going to Vegas have NEVER played in one, so I'd like to avoid these type of rules. Thanks.
