NL Holdem tournament.

Pays 20 places. 21 left. Blinds 250/500. I am big blind and post 500, had 1300 before the post and now 800 left. The guy on my left has 360. 11-20th place pays about two times the buy-in.

Button raises to 1000 and SB folds. I have 78o and fold to be able to see if the guy next to me busts out next hand. Was that correct thing to do? Does anybody just call the raise and then fold if the flop doesn't hit? There would be still chips to post SB next hand and see if BB busts out and sneak into the money.

What hand do you need to raise all-in here and forget about sneaking into the money?

Aces, Kings and AK, everything else muck, IMO.

They key for me here is that 11-20th pay the same. There's little point in creeping up places by playing this hand. You're probably getting one of those little prizes or nothing unless you're very lucky.

I would fold everything except Aces and Kings.

In this situation, I might not even play KK. The guy on your left is probably gone on the next hand. Get in the money. Get aces or wait.
