I have an extra monitor but the computer to go with it is crap. Is there a way to plug a second monitor into my latop and use both screens?

Yup, just plug it into the monitor jack in the back of your computer. In the display properties->Settings you can configure where it is located. Google: 'configuring second monitor' for specific details for your OS
