I think it's pretty cool of Moneymaker to make a donation to cancer research. It's only a little over 1% of his post-tax winnings, but then again it's not something that you hear about much.
Any other big tournament winners make donations with some of their win?

Even though I'm not a big tourny winner (like $30K-ish each of the last two years), I routinely donate 30% of everything I win. I figger if I lose everything, I'll end up asking the charities to return the favor.

There were a large number of contributors pledging one percent or more. It was part of a fundraising venture called "Put a Bad Beat on Cancer."

how will that work exactly? "um hello american red cross? i gave you guys a few thou a couple years back and see ive been running bad past couple months and there's this really juicy 6-12 game over here at commerce. so i was wonderin, could you guys help a pal out and buy me in a rack, ill have the money back to you by wednesday i promise..."

Basically.
But if I got a real compassionate chap on the line, I'd tell him about the juicy 15-30. Shoot for the moon, you might hit a star.
