How many online forums have more members than 2+2? [Archive]

We did this a while back, but 2+2 has been growing rapidly. 2+2 now looks like it has about 47,000 registered members.

How many forums have more? A few? A ton? I have no idea and am curious. BTW, we need to get all of these forums voting for Forest. (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=3566719&page=0&view=colla psed&sb=5&o=14&fpart=22#Post3624071)

FlyerTalk (http://www.flyertalk.com) has 80,000 registered members.

Is SlashDot the biggest? How many members do they have?

back in the forrest post i mentioned craigslist. i'm not sure how many people actually use their forum (it's awful), but unlike the regular system, all locations are combined.

Its a ton. There is a website that tracks stuff like this, and you need like 300,000 members to make the top ten or something.

I would venture to say Fark has more as well. Another thing is that membership != readership. Look at sites like SomethingAwful. The only reason I'm not a member is because I'm too cheap to shell out $10 or whatever.

The immediate thought that came to mind was video game forums, specifically RTS and RPG forums. Those get pretty big, but some stay big for years and some fade away quickly. I'm sure the World of Warcraft one is gigantic.

I'm sure there are a ton. However, I doubt there are more than a few single forums with more activity than OOT. There's got to be some sort maximum efficiency, and most probably bottleneck around the same spot.

in the big picture, it is fairly small, but considering how much of a niche that online poker forums are, its pretty massive

The very few cool people left lurk around in the old-school small talk forum, which is only open to people who have been there at least a year. Personally, I think it would be better off at 2 years, but who am I to say anything.

Yeah ST is similar to OOT in that it is filled with douchebags, but the douchebags in OOT are funny, smart and clever. ST's douchebags are just morans.
