View Full Version : Another Gift Advice Question

What is a good gift to give a female co-worker? It's a gift for a friend. The situation is completely unromantic so SIIHP won't work. I expect any number of manwhore jokes as well, but I'd like some serious responses too, please.

The situation is this - A co-worker and very good friend of my girlfriend is completely stressed out. She overworks herself totally. She gives too much of herself to far too many committments. She's just too selfless and doesn't give herself any time for fun. My girlfriend had tried asking to go do fun things, but she always insists she's too busy. My girlfriend is really worried about her well being.

She wants to get her a nice gift that says 'I care.' and also will help her pack up her troubles in her old ALICE pack, at least temporarily.

Ideas? Recommendations from the beautiful ladies of this forum will carry significantly more weight. Thank you.

Gift certificate to a day spa.

What is she stressed out about?

If she has kids, offer to babysit. If it's work, give her a gift certificate for a nice restaurant near her work that she can really relax at during lunchtime. If it's homelife/ dating then give her movie tix or a netflix account. If it's just general stress, give her a gift. for a pedicure or give her one of those foot spas.

Make sure it comes from your girlfriend or you two as a couple. If you give it to her directly, out of the blue for no holiday, she will think you want her and it will make her more stressed out.

As previously suggested a gift certificate to a spa is a great idea.
You could also buy a basket with candles, lotions, bath salts... pick a scent that is soothing (I am sure your girlfriend will know what to choose).

If she likes to unwind with a cocktail, I'd suggest mslif's basket idea with a nice bottle of wine. She can make a nice personal unwind night outta that. Of course if she has a guy, well then a nice couples unwind night.

Depends on the spa and what kind of treatments you want her to be able to get. When I buy them for people I typically spend $100 at Burke Williams, a fancy place in LA. For that I think they can get a massage and a manicure or facial or something. You could probably spend less on just a massage somewhere else.

WTF, I thought you were a gimmick account?

As for the question, if you want to go the simple route, flowers and a nice card saying hang in there will go a long ways in bringing a smile to a woman's face.

the other suggestions are good too.

I use my other account for the strategy forums. I don't want to mix my oot and strategy accounts. I've never had occasion to post anything non-gimmicky in oot before. Thanks for not banning me with the other gimmicks last time around. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

First, when you pick a french wine, follow these couples of rules:
The wine has to be bottled at the property. The bottle will say "mis en bouteille a (name of property or cattle).
Also make sure you see "appelation controle" on the bottle. It is very important.
Now, you can find some great St. Emilions that are not too expensive.
I do not know much about american wines unfortunately.

I don't want to hijack this thread but I am curious on the "name of property or cattle" and the "appelation controle" phrases.

Please educate those of us who understand American wines and would like to learn more about French (and other countries' wines).

If the wine is not botted at the property it was made at, it can tempered with. Most likely will be diluted or some aroma will be added to it.
You want to look for AOC (appelation d'origine controlle) meaning the name of the wine is actually from the property it was made. This is the most important thing to look for.
If you are looking for a very good wine (more expensive) you want to look for VDQS (Vin de qualitee superior) meaning Wine of higher quality. You will be able to see those letters on the bottle.
The key in french wine is not to look for the most expensive you find.

Edit; I do not want to hijack this thread either, PM me if you have any questions.

for a full days treatement $300 plus for just a decent and what not massage around 100+ honestly if ur tryin to help her relax and feel special u should do the full day thing minimum...otherwise she may not even use it b/c its only for an hr and she would use the excuse she is "too busy" hell even if u got her the whole day treatment she still might be too busy to go

Well the wine seems to have been well received. Hopefully she'll take some time for herself with the wine and bath stuff. She really needs to. Thanks. And you're welcome.
