View Full Version : Need a GOOD wireless router

I think I need to get a better wireless router. Right now I've got a Netgear WG311T and it's a total piece of crap. It resets itself randomly, which then times me out at the tables I'm playing. As I'm moving up and adding tables, this is more of a problem.

What do you guys use and/or recommend?

Thanks,
Brandin

I have had a D-Link 713-P that never showed any behavior you describe, but did not have WPA capability.

Now I have a Linksys WRT54G to enable WPA. I like that, too.

In the house I also have a Linksys wireless bridge (that acts as a receiver with a port so you can plug in a device to it as if you ran CAT5 cable from the router) and a Linksys PCMCIA card for MrsStevieG's laptop.

All three Linksys devices come with a setup wizard that is easy to use. The router also has a Web based front end (as most do) for more advanced features.

The Linksys does not seem to do a lot of logging of activity. If you need to know what people on your home network are doing you may need something else. Otherwise, the ease of use is great.

Linksys. They were recently bought by Cisco and are a quality product. Stay well away from D-Link.

I figured Linksys. That's what we used in college (my roomate was IT and got them from somewhere he worked), I just want something that will stay on, and won't disconnect me when I have 4 tables up...that really sucks.

Thanks

It is okay to have it hard wired, honest......and it will not have that problem..if i was plaing in 8-12 games and was playing 3/6...it would cost 24 dollars every time this happened..HARD WIRED!! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Trust me on this: Get a WRT54GS Linksys router, and load the Sveasoft firmware on it. Pay for Sveasoft, or google to find it free.

My D-Link has never given me a problem. It was only like $30 too.

I have a Netgear WGR614 v4 it's a P.O.S.

I have to do a power cycle every few days. Actually, it's not working anymore. They are supposed to be sending me a new one and then I have to pay to ship them the old one. I won't be buying netgear again.
