I need a pair of black leather shoes (with laces, not wingtips) that I could wear with casual pants. I'll spend some cash. Any ideas?

I have a pair like these (http://www.timberland.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1775113&cp=1779791.1761081.176 1134&parentPage=family) , I wear them with khakis or jeans. If you don't like these browse around and maybe you'll find something good.

He says he'll spend a bit of cash, and you suggest Rockports.

Proper shoes are not mass produced. The difference is amazing. This guy's pretty good - http://www.timlittle.com , all handmade, beautiful things to own.

Meh, I don't think I'd ever spend much more then $100 on a pair of "casual" shoes. Definately not 200+ pounds. I have a brown pair of these (http://www.shoebuy.com/sb/s.jsp/r_prof/br_Rockport/d_AdultM/gw_W/cm_searchbar%7CGeneralWidth%7CW/p_3/st_51954/sbstl_131041) and like I said, I'm pretty happy with them.

Sorry. I don't know his sitch. FWIW, I live in Rockports with work, I've never found a more comfortable pair of shoes.

This guy is awesome by the way. Thanks for the link.

They are incredibly comfortable. Those and Church's just feel so different to the factory produced junk. The leather is so soft, they shape themselves to your foot - within a few uses they're as comfortable as wearing trainers!

I took a £250 pair of Church's which I'd totally worn out in for repair recently, expecting to get told they were way too far gone and couldn't economically be repaired. But no: "Of course, Sir, they're guaranteed for life. They'll be sent back to the workshop and rebuilt on the same last where they were originally made. This number here [shows me a code scratched on the inside of the tongue] tells us which one." They came back in brand new condition, for £60. Wonderful stuff.

Don't know where you're buying your Sterling, but someone's laughing at you. It's only about $375.
