View Full Version : OT: Considerations in moving up from the 6's to the 11's

I used to play small stakes limit hold'em and I rarely played SNG's. I heard that there was more money to be made in SNG's, so I came here and read some posts. Had a rough couple of weeks playing ring games, so I decided to use the last $150 in my account strictly for SNG's.

I had a very bad run, and only cashed once after playing some SNG's which left my BR at $50. I didn't know what to do, but I was totally addicted to SNG's. I looked to Poker Nerd, and he helped me greatly with just a little bit of advice.

So I started at the 6's, and have built my BR up to $260.

Is my BR sufficient to play the 11's? Since I've started playing the 6's, I've taken about 5 shots at the 11's and I haven't had very good results.

I know that the juice is killin me, but I SWEAR the 6's are so friggin soft!.

So in other words... I really want to play the 11's, but I just need you guys to convince me that I won't go broke /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ideally youd have at least 30 buy ins, to be nice and safe 50 so with that said if you have discipline to move down if they start off bad like down to 150 or something then go for it. YOu are wasting a lot on the rake at the 6s.

$260 is enough to have a shot at the $11s.

The $5s really do suck since you pay 20% in rake instead of 10%, and it has a huge impact on ROI. Better if you just play the $5+.5 at stars, which will also give you postflop practice.

As far as skill level, there is basically nothing between them. I've never played a $5 before, but I can't see how the play could by any worse than an $11.

This is variance or you are treating the 11's differently with your play. I've become successful at the 11's by not respecting my opponents ability because most of the time they don't have much. Read the aleomagus guide to beating the 11's and then adjust your play and it should go smoothly.

Also move your money to pokerstars to play the 5.50 sit and gos or the 6.50 turbos.

6's are a waste of money, plus the $11's are not any different skill wise IMO, hell even the $22's are like the $6's to an extent.

You get half the rakeback /images/graemlins/frown.gif

the 10's are easy, the 50's are easy, peak hours the 100's are easy. Don't be a pu.ssy. If your good you should be able to move up crazy quick. This forum should be good enough to make u a winner at the 50's, unless your retarded

Well, I've searched and searched for said guide to no avail. I never seem to have any luck with the search. I suppose it would help if I knew the post title...

AleoMagus's guide (http://archiveserver.twoplustwo.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=&Number=591779&page=&v iew=&sb=5&o=&fpart=)

Aleo's guide was helpful to me at the $11s, but it wasn't until I read up on more effective bubble play on these forums that I started to turn a better profit.

You (and the OP) also want to run through the different sections here (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=1918735&page=1&view=c ollapsed&sb=5&o=14&fpart=7#Post2623094).

every 100 6s you play is $50 you just threw out the window!!

do yourself a favor and move up to the 11s IMMEDIATELY

the 11s are no tougher than the 6s...don't worry about variance...move up to 11s...u have 24 buyins...if u hit a 24 buyin drop immediately, then just reload with some money from your normal job

but do u really wanna just THROW AWAY all those $50 bills?

$11s and $6s have no discernable difference.

One could even argue that the $6s are tighter, since the people there are more worried about losing $6 instead of $11, and don't mind paying the extra $.50 rake.

I agree with the rest of the posters and was going to post about that, but more indepth... however it now sees that everyone has already convinced you to go to the 11s and posthaste. So. Good luck! LOL!

Good luck!! Let me know how you do and what differences you find. I made a venture from the $6s to the $11s when my bankroll had gotten more than appropriate ($500 or so) and then promptly lost $170 over like 40 $11s. I ventured back to the $6s to rebuild my confidence and my bankroll. Plan on sticking my toe back in the $11 water soon.

See to me I dont see how some people are having much more troubles in the 11s compared to the 6s.

I mean the skill difference is just not there.

*shrugs*

Oh well... all bow down to variance I guess. /images/graemlins/smile.gif
