Hey guys. I am not a regular poster here but I have been reading and learning from posts here for a few months.
What I wondered is if anyone notices that playing live vs. online greatly affects their game play? I am just a casual player who has an "ok" understanding of the game, read a few books but overall have not done a lot of studying. I also have really not had an opportunity to fully understand/study the entire concept of +EV or -EV and implied odds.. etc. Overall though I am not a terrible player for how casual I am.
I haven't really played since last spring and instead I enjoy watching TV poker, reading the posts here, the higher no limit games online (yes I actually sit there and watch for fun for hours.. it's sick /boring for most I know...) (on a side note, who is this twin-caracas guy? he is always on 5-tabling the Stars 10/20NL along with another dude named curzdog, H@@lingol and a couple other regulars... I often wonder if these people are just shuffling money back and forth between one another, and only making money when the occasional rich fish logs online! hehe)
Well anyway, back to the point of my post. I live very very near Niagara Falls,NY and go to school about 1 1/2 to 2 hours from Turning Stone (although I have never been there). I have been to poker rooms in southern tier western new York, Niagara Falls Seneca Niagara, and even the Fallsview Casino on the Canadian side. When I played live I would say over the course of a year... of VERY casual play I would guess I have come out a little ahead (didn't really track progress). This is playing the 1/2NL for 60 bucks maybe working it up to 240 on some days, losing others etc. However... whenever I play online I can't seem to break even, let alone come out ahead.
I am wondering if others experience this as well or whether it is probably due to my game selection, ability to read people better live (which is the main thing I think it is), discipline online (which is another main thing), etc. I realize that I have probably not played nearly as many live hands as online hands to get an idea of how much everything averages out to .. but was just wondering in general.
I probably won't play again until out of school or until I can fully understand the decisions I'm making, but it is fun to steal knowledge away from everyone at this board and learn the analytical tactics that creates an overall winner.
Thanks! ... Oh also, does anyone play in Niagara Falls or surrounding areas live, and if so what do you think of it?
