View Full Version : My HHs from Pacific Trout

Well I was actually at home early enough to play one of these for the first time. I'm a relative n00b and was a bit intimidated and probably played a bit weak-tight, and wasn't really sure what to expect. I lasted for 30 hands, picked up 5 strong starting hands, but never hit any flop that I saw, then unfortunately took a beat and was one of the first to bust out.

I was MG_UK up in the top left corner, on the table with FatalRose, SilentSupra, etc. Here are the 5 hands that I played (well there is an awful 6th one that I won't post because I know exactly what I did wrong), along with my comments for each one.

This is the first hand of the tournament. I am now getting into the habit of raising 99+ preflop so that if I flop an overpair, I'm less scared of the possible garbage 2 pair / straights that could be ahead. But here I'm terrified and weak-tight so let's just see a flop.

UTG calls t20, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, Hero calls t20, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, SB completes, BB checks.

I'll do this every time at a 10+1 and expect a call from 44, A6s etc... but here I think it's overkill, given the relatively small pot. I guess I should have popped it up to 250-ish and hope to dodge an ace if I'm called...?

Reading the HH again I think I'm an idiot for not throwing out a bet first. At a 10+1 I'm 99% sure I'm ahead of the bettor here (if he has a ten, he doesn't bet that much) and possibly even push, but my big concern is that BB is still to act behind me and OBVIOUSLY has at least quad tens. I'm weak-tight.

Hero folds, BB folds.

With a bigger pot, I shove here. I guess I'll have to see a flop and try to play poker.

Hero calls t90, <font color="#666666">3 folds</font>.

Maybe I should have tried a c-bet at the flop, but as the original raiser I think he's more likely to play back at me. Either way, I can't believe I'm ahead here, the T or Q could easily hit him not to mention he might have a pocket pair. If he has AK, I don't really want to get into a game of chicken to find out. Weak tight again.

I guess this is standard, though I'm not sure if I should expect a reraise from a 2+2er to mean I could be in trouble? Well he had AQs and spiked a Q, gg /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Reading through the HH again, I think I really butchered the JJ and first AK hands and generally played a bit too scared. I'll try and play again next week and hopefully stop being such a big wuss.
