i've seen these kinds of 'old comics' before. i never ran into one that could actually be proven by a cross-reference on ebay when i looked. but i've seen stuff like that ww2 bugs bunny episode and whatever so i know there are some screwed up seemingly authentic things.

no, it's true...

the comics code (the self policing authority) really watered down the characters badly in the 50's - People think the TV show was campy, but it was an imitation of the comics of that day.

The Dark Knight we know and live didn't come back till the 80's and was only really rejuvinated with Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" - Superman has always been a boyscout - in that series, 15 years in the future, he's basically errand boy for the U.S. Government -

they got really weird in the 60's - pretty stupid...

but I'm a freak - I got turned on by the wonder woman covers at this site - http://www.superdickery.com/bondage/1.html

List of more pratical uses Superboy can make of a machine that can see through time:

1.) Betting on the outcomes of sporting events.
2.) Forseeing natural diasters and catastrophhe.
3.) Letting Bruce Wayne know that his parents are going to be gunned down in front of his very eyes in a filthy alley, you dick!

I thought they may be real until I got to "I'll tell you why I'll never marry you Lana, or you Lois! Who wants a wife that is so stupid she doesn't realize I'm Superman when I take off my Clark Kent glasses?"

On the other hand, if they were all covers of Superman in gay poses I would believe they are real, since Superman is the gayest comic book character ever.

yes, i have nothing better to do than come on a messageboard and lie about a bunch of old comics i have thrown in a box in my attic. that makes a lot of sense.

although i did have nothing better to do than revive this thread, since i forgot about it until now.

i just found 4 covers and took a picture of them with my phone. i dont know how to post images in here, and i have no desire to learn how, but if anyone wants to do so, i'd be more than happy to email them the pictures.

i would think that if these actually existed they would be for sale all over the place. ebay is a gigantic market for collectibles. just send me a link to some of them where they can actually be purchased there and i'll believe you.

Why would anyone think these are fake? They all look fine to me.

It was SOP for comic book companies to put that kind of stuff on the cover: Why Is Batman Trying To Kill Robin???? and some sort of dramatized scene. Readers said, "No way!" and bought the magazine.

These are absolutely authentic. They are not all over Ebay because comics from the 40's-60's are extremely rare.

as i stated in my original post, i certainly believe it's possible that these are real. i just haven't seen any evidence that they are. with regard you your rarity assertion, there are like 150 hits for '1942 comic' with all sorts of comic books. with superman being the 'biggest' comic book, i would think that expecting these to be for sale on the world's largest collectible marketplace wouldn't be a big stretch.

this comics.org site does seem to confirm them though. i punched in one of the titles into it and it had all sorts of information regarding the writers and that sort of thing. i checked for ren & stimpy comics and other things i had known of and it had entire databases on them as well.

As a recovered comics nerd, I can very much vouch for these things being real. (i.e., people who I implicity trust on old comics boards have said that they are).

They're just really damn hard to find. I am slightly surprised you're not finding them on ebay though.

If you're really intersted, you might just check some of the larger used comic retatilers. I believe mile high comics was one of them.
