Tonight's show will be the usual "Whale Game" of 50/100 NL with a 5000 max buyin. It'll also have the same rebuy structure (5k, 5k, 10k, 20k). Some of the usuals will be in the game (Hasan Habib, Bruce Parker (the Calloway guy) Yosh Nakano, Mo) along with a special surprise guest possibly coming in around 7pm PT (think former Friday night regular)

Last night's game was a rather entertaining 300/500 NL game featuring the Woods (Barry and James), Francois and others that made for an entertaining 3 hours of LATB. As usual, www.liveatthebike.com (http://www.liveatthebike.com) for all your live poker action from 6-9pm PT.

One more thing, let's not ruin Bart's day by discussing the Boston-Chicago game, especially after what happened around 8:38 tonight.

It'll be nice to watch this show as I'm usually playing tennis Wednesday nights but we're getting hammered by rain. I think I know who the special guest is by your hint but I'll not spoil it by guessing.

I knew I should have been a plumber! I don't know any poor plumbers.

I'm thinking the old friday night player that will come in tonight is GOR.

One of you are correct (if that person turns up).

A couple of asides...

- Mo usually doesn't play this high, does he? I didn't think so, and then Bart mentioned it too. I wish him great success - but did he fall into Yosh's trap of free wine? Lay off the wine, Mo!

- I saw Barry Woods on a video - I had an opportunity to watch Howard Lederer's video from his "Fantasy Reality Camp". It's two DVDs and the first DVD has a great speech by Howard.

The reason I bring up Howard's Camp is that Barry Woods was there, and got himself some face time when he was invited to join the final table. He sat between Annie and Howard. He didn't win, and I'm not sure how he did, but I thought it was interesting that Barry Woods went to Howard's Poker Camp.

Well it's gotta be Jonas then - as apparently Gor has given up Poker for now, in favor of school and boxing. I wrote Bart a couple of weeks ago and asked them to get on Mo to call Jonas & Gor. Great!

I'm prolly wrong bout Diablo. Might have been just a t-shirt he was wearing before.

Mo has played in those $5000 tournaments that they have had on the show before.

Kevmath

I'm sure Diablo's got a couple closets full of those t-shirts. He does enjoy the NL Mexican poker as well, so I'm sure he's got lots of money as well as gamble in him.

Hasan is tilting so bad, it's good. I'm almost jealous.

Kevmath
10-05-2005, 09:23 PM
Maybe he owns the company or something like that. Hasan's going on super-mega tilt right now the way he starts out ahead and gets run down by Bruce, Yosh, Diablo, et al.

cwsiggy
10-05-2005, 09:24 PM
Just Pokerstove'd that. Yosh was 65.9% to 34.1 favorite on that hand with that flop.

Posted something like this in the book section but since this is a nl game......I just got Gordon's Little Green Book on No Limit and read one of the tidbits in the back on player profiles. Someone he calls "Biggest Online Winner" -it's Prahlad Friedman by the hints in the next sentence. He says he plays an unbeatable, perfect game of no limit using game theory, but it has high variance.

Sounds like anyone who truly wants to play great no limit needs to know game theory!

Russ McGinley
10-05-2005, 09:32 PM
This is getting ridiculous. And its only 30 minutes in and Jonas isn't exactly weak-tight.

cwsiggy
10-05-2005, 09:33 PM
ouch, ouch, ouch. Poor Hasan. Time to go home.

Kevmath
10-05-2005, 09:36 PM
Hasan's now down about 15k since he bought in? He's going for Tu's record of dropping over $25k in a Whale Game from about 3 weeks back.

7n7
10-05-2005, 09:38 PM
I'll bet she's still complaining about that $1k at the end.

Russ McGinley
10-05-2005, 09:39 PM
The "Ted Forrest" is 92o Bart. Its an auto-muck against any other player except Chad Brown.

10-05-2005, 09:42 PM
Speaking of Mr. Friedman, I wonder where he's been lately. I haven't seen him playing on UB or FT for a while now.

When I'm in the home office, I sometimes have his NL going on a separate monitor. High variance is indeed a part of his game. One thing that I find kind of strange is the amount of complaining he does in the chat when he gets sucked out on.

Prahlad is definitely on the good end of the suck-out spectrum often enough to where I would think his ego could handle the opposite. Guess not.

cwsiggy
10-05-2005, 09:44 PM
I haven't seen him online in a while either. Maybe he changed his name - though people pick up on it quickly - just look for the guy sitting on three UB tables with 100k+. Maybe he's cutting his rap album. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

cwsiggy
10-05-2005, 10:08 PM
Prahlad's unbeatable strategy from Gordon's book
1. get in the pot cheaply
2. massivly overbet with some premium draws - this is especially effective with a scare card
3. massivly overbet with the nuts or best hand.

without typing too much of the book, 3/4's of the time he is on a draw, but the other 1/4 he has the "nuts" and costs the caller a ton, making up for the lower pot equity on the draws. It also creates massive tilt and the times the person doesn't call he wins the pots.

Mr. Mahatma is definitely prone to the tilt bug. I have seen him donate a few times by calling all-in with no pair/no draw.

I recall once such time he did this with KQ (only the K being live to QQ so I guess that's a draw). He spiked the K on the river. His opponent then proceeded to dump at least $15k to him over the next half hour obviously steamed.

Bart & Shirley "Send it to the Booth" Hey Guys, When is a Whale also a Pro? I mean * Phil Gordon was a dot com Millionare when He went Pro but he was a Whale 1ST right?
Whan about Poor Joe Hachem he was a Doc. Then a Pro now a 7.5 Million Dollar Whale/Pro or is that Pro/Whale? Phil Gordon is a Pro/Whale but Phil Helmuth is just a Jerk/Whale!

Don't know if you read his blog or not, but my wife thinks I idolize Paul Phillips b/c I talk about some of his posts. That man is one sharp and witty mo' fo'.

Hard to define him as a pro b/c he plays so infrequently and definitely doesn't derive the majority of his income from the game /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sidenote: He sat down at a 3/6 game at the Mirage while I was there. Seems like a pretty likeable guy if you're not an idiot around him.

7n7
10-05-2005, 10:39 PM
Hmmm, you might be right there. I've read every entry he's had but don't recall that one.

Today I'm in the camp that he's a whale who happens to be exceptionally good at poker. Tomorrow he may be poker pro again.

Fyi, I only say doesn't derive the majority of his income from poker b/c the money he's won playing poker doesn't exceed 50% of what the man is actually worth. He's worth more than the million or so he won a couple of years ago at the Bike and I would assume has a decent investment portfolio. Of course Paul hates people making assumptions about him.

Russ McGinley
10-05-2005, 10:41 PM

Mo did call me today to invite me, however i never actually spoke with him to confirm that i would make it.

it turned out that i couldn't make it to play, and by the comments made in this thread it seems as though i missed out.

i don't really like playing in restricted buy-in games, but it sounds as though there is quite some money on the table.

i'm going to try and make it next week.

just for your guy's info i've been playing primarily the

I think Shirley needs to start watching the archives for the Friday night shows Jesus was in (especially his early appearances) so she'd understand what Bart's talking about

Kevmath
10-05-2005, 11:51 PM
If you were at the Bike regularly and played in the games that are on the show, I'd say it's a steal at $15/month.

It's also a great learning tool as well, especially if you watch the shows Barry Greenstein was on.

10-05-2005, 11:52 PM
I think Shirley is taking the more sophisticated approach to the hand between Bruce and Jesus, while Bart is speaking more as a person sitting in the less sophisticated players (jesus') seat. I think you're both right. The unsophisitcated player will always call huge bets for a negative return, while the sophisitacted player will lay the hand down.

I certainly would have moved in there (in Bruce's seat), and I can't understand why he just called. I think a pot sized raise was certainly reasonable in that spot, don't you?

10-05-2005, 11:55 PM
