Wait, this is all messed up. Which end is the snakes head, and is that a limb of the alligator sticking out?

I think the head is under water; the tail is on the left. Yeah, that's a chunk of alligator sticking out.

I'm calling BS here. What was a Burmese python doing in the Everglades? I think this was a creative bit of Photoshopping.

Sightseeing?

Supposedly, people dump their unwanted pets in the swamps and this was one of them.

When I saw this earlier today (the larger pic) my whole body involuntarily and forcibly shook like three times. For some reason that was one of the more distrubing pictures I'd ever seen.

Did you feel like something was trying to claw its way out?

Not that AP is infallible, but I'd lend more credence to something they're pushing out on the wire.

Its a real photo. Its actually happened a couple of times. There are reasons to believe that burmese pythons may have actually established themselves in the Everglades, unlike retics and some other large boids that prosper, but haven't yet bred as an invasive species.

There are some great photos from December two years ago of a Burmese python in the midst of a struggle with an alligator--I can't bother digging it up, but it was on one of the snake forums I frequent a few years ago.

People release pets and they do it. This equals more of these living in an area. Oscars are now all over the place in Flordia from people throwing them in lakes.

BTW that pic is amazing.

Theres a bit more info in the story Here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4313978.stm)

Apparently its the fourth recorded fight between the species.
