Dell 2001 FP resoltion to 4 tables when using a laptop HELP!!

I finally got a Dell 2001FP monitor today so I can fit 4 tables on the screen. However I am attaching the monitor to my laptop and can not work out how to change the resolution on the Dell 2 fit 4 tables.

Any help would be really appreciated!!

you have to set the resolution setting to 1600x1200. if it won't go that high, your video card won't support a resolution that high

Is there a way to check how high your card goes wihout actually buying a $500 monitor first?
