I see the Stro's taking this series in 4.

I see alot of Braves fans talking about how we don't have Kent, Beltran, or Bagwell (other than a pinch hitting role.)

But you have to remember that we now have Pettite, who is having what has probably been his best year. Plus the emergence of Morgan Ensberg, who was injured last season and was pretty much a non-factor.

Braves are going down!

Thats okay, Braves went 3-0 when facing those guys this year. The only loss to the 'stros this year was in a Backe start.

That would require Houston scoring a couple runs. Braves have the better lineup going + Hudson. I think they have a good shot today if Hudson can go 7+.

One potential problem for the Astros starting pitchers might be stamina. They have already had 2 intense innings of fellatio from the ESPN announcers.

I don't understand why every commentator on Earth is all over the Astros. I mean, a bunch of people on ESPN.com picked them to win the World Series, which seems insane to me.

I guess they're just the trendy pick.

I think it's because they have three excellent pitchers and a real good bullpen. Plus the ability to manufacture run(s). And Garner is underrated as a manager. All this makes them perfectly designed for a best of (5 or) 7 series.

But I don't buy either of those. I think "manufacturing runs" is an overrated skill, and while Garner may be a good manager, I don't think coaching in baseball matters as much as in other sports.

Mostly I was just saying that while I won't be surprised if the Astros win the series, I can't believe that >90% of the "experts" are picking them. The line was about even.

And I am shocked how many people think they'll beat the Cardinals/Yankees/Red Sox as well. If they're so great, why didn't they win more games?

nolanfan34

Finally a good game to listen to here at work. Should be interesting to see if the Braves can get to Pettitte before Wheeler and Lidge get the call.

Houston already has more runs than I thought they'd have after two games.

I agree that managing over the course of a season in MLB isn't nearly as important as in the NFL. I do think it is significant in the post season. Possibly more so than in the NBA or NHL.

Mfg. runs has to be an important skill. Houston's anemic offense is in the post season. They're not there because they're winning (-1)-0. They're winning 2-1. And they've done so with bunts, sac flies etc. It's not important to the Yanks or Sox or Braves but it is important to teams that rely on pitching.

Fox pre-game show.

More Francoeur Francoeur Francoeur... "strong candidate for ROY"

No reference to Taveras. Even when they mention the Astros young guys they talk about Lane, Ensberg and Berkman? Does Kevin Kennedy even know our roster? Those guys average like 28 years old!

Young guys... Taveras, Burke, Scott. Please, please do an ounce of research KEVIN KENNNEDY!

At this point the only good thing about Fox is that they aren't ESPN. They spent 12 minutes talking about "Baby Braves", then both Ziele and Kennedy pick Astros to win tonight..

Whatever..

Not all of them are young, the pitching coach doesn't go pitch. We got screwed by Kolb sucking and then just a lot of problems. [/ QUOTE ]

Maybe you will...but apart from the LWLWL trend, why do you expect to win tomorrow? Brandon Backe pitches very well at home plus adds a legit bat to the lineup. And if Hudson couldn't beat the Astros in Atlanta on full rest, what makes you think he's gonna beat the Astros in Houston (where they're clearly better) on short rest?

NLCS competitors get set in just a few hours.

Let's just hope for a good clean game. Huddy can get emotional sometimes. Unfortunately, I can only watch the first hour of it, listen to the 2nd hour on the radio, then I'm done. I got my own baseball game today at 3:05, and I got to get there at 2. And leave at 1 to get there. /images/graemlins/mad.gif

Backe is a big-game pitcher... this should be good.

BTW, I know why we hit SOSA so hard last night... his slider was not as effective as it should have been due to the fact that Astros got to "practice" on Smoltz's slider the previous game. I really think that made a difference.. after seeing Smoltz, Sosa's slider was like a cutter. /images/graemlins/confused.gif Yes? No?

Theoretically it might have been better to pitch Sosa, then Smoltz, but you gotta get Smoltz in there as soon as possible.

Jack of Arcades

I think it had something to do with the fact that Sosa blows.

10-09-2005, 01:19 PM
Good job guys, Huddy is on short rest, let's all go up and swing at the first pitch!!

YEAH! Good strategy! We certainly wouldn't want to make Hudson work and throw pitches to get to their pen by the 6th inning would we!? Nahhhh... their pen has shown dominance this series!! WE NEED TO SWING AT EVERY PITCH AGAINST HUDDY AND LET HIM THROW A COMPLETE GAME!

Wow. Terrific Backe. He better make up for some of that with his own bat. We can't give up any more runs now or it's probably over. We can come back from 4 with 7 AB's left.

Sutcliffe, inning 4... "Hudson has only thrown 40 pitches...these astros hitters need to make him work more.."

NAHHHH!! Really? I said that in the first inning and Rick Sutcliffe just now realizes that?

It's too late! It's 4-0 and it's the 4th inning! And Huddy has only thrown 40-something pitches! It's too late to get to their bullpen early.

One of the greatest games in postseason history loses to a college kick-off return? I didn't know I could lose more respect for Berman, seeing as I'd already lost it all previously.

If this game was Yanks v. Red Sox, they would already be printing a double-headed commemorative coin with A-Rod on one side and Big Fati on the other that says "In Jeter we Trust". Guaranteed.
