10-05-2005, 12:12 AM
This was a live STT at the Reno Hilton. The structure is t1000 to start and 15 min levels starting at 25-50, 50-100, ...

I'd like to give you this hand and see what your decision is based on with no reads at all. Then, I'll give you the reads and see if it changes anything...

This is early in the second level with blinds at 50-100.

UTG (t900)
UTG+1 (t900)
MP1 (t1400)
MP2 (t700)
Button (t4000)
SB (t800)
Hero (t700 after posting BB)

Hero is BB dealt A /images/graemlins/spade.gif Q /images/graemlins/spade.gif
2 folds, MP raises t1400 all in, 3 folds, Hero...

Mike.

We haven't made even a full orbit yet (I believe this is hand #9) and the button has gone all-in (or made a bet that would cover anyone in the hand) in 5 (possibly 6) of those hands. He has eliminated 2 players and has the table shaking. He has made these moves whether opening or with others already in the pot. We've seen J4s (all-in with a 4 on the flop), T8o (flop 8 from BB), and AA (all-in PF opener), and the rest uncontested.

MP1 just doubled up about 2 hands ago when his All-in open PF raise of Q8s from the button beat AJs (not the button here).

Strange, Strange, table and everyone seems anxious to get their shot with a good hand against the bully.

I don't know if any of this makes a call with A /images/graemlins/spade.gif Q /images/graemlins/spade.gif any better, or any worse.

Either A) his range is wide open based on his Q8s steal attempt earlier or
B) his range is very narrow hoping for a call from the button (or anyone else for that matter).

I've got one reply that says Auto-Call based on my stack size. What about folding and waiting for an opportunity against button?

Mike

If there was doubt in your mind even though raptor said autocall, your read on MP1 should erase it. If MP1 is willing to push with Q8s, you gots to call this.

Also, I know this line of thinking is a trap because not everyone plays the way that I do, but if I was MP1 and had AA, I'd limp and hope the button pushed.

But what about KK, QQ, AK? And even any pair I'm behind.

I thought it was an easy call at the time as well, but after getting beat by AK I questioned the call for all my chips relatively early and wanted to hear from you guys...Thanks.

btw, I flopped a straight then he rivered a flush /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I think that the more interesting question is: Why did you pay $210 to play in this tournament???

30 hands will be played before this type of tournament is over.

You need a compelling reason to fold any of them.
