Party Poker 1.00/2.00 Hold'em (10 handed) link (http://www.darksun.lunarpages.com/poker/)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with 2/images/graemlins/heart.gif, 2/images/graemlins/club.gif.
2 folds, MP2 calls, Hero calls, 1 folds, Button raises, SB calls, BB calls, MP2 calls, Hero calls.

Flop: (10.00 SB) 2/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, 6/images/graemlins/spade.gif, 5/images/graemlins/heart.gif (5 players)
SB checks, BB checks, MP2 checks, Hero checks, Button bets, SB calls, BB calls, MP2 raises, Hero calls, Button 3-bets, SB folds, BB calls, MP2 calls, Hero caps, Button calls, BB calls, MP2 calls.

Turn: (13.50 BB) J/images/graemlins/diamond.gif (4 players)
BB checks, MP2 checks, Hero bets, Button raises, BB folds, MP2 calls, Hero calls.

River: (19.50 BB) 4/images/graemlins/club.gif (3 players)
MP2 checks, Hero ??

No reads.

At the flop, any hands that I'm behind for the button (a hand where the button would preflop raise into 2 + blinds)?

Flop: planned to C/R for value, but the c/r came from my right, didn't want to make the field eat 2 at once. After the 3-bet I figured what the hell, I'm ahead of all but 3 possible hands.

Turn: Standard I think.

River: What's my plan?

raise.

mp2 raised preflop with a 3?
i doubt it.

I probably 3 bet the turn. As you played it, I would bet-call the river.

why oh why did you fail to three bet the turn?

bet the river because button is now scared.

First, I don't know why I didn't 3-bet the turn... Didn't even notice that til you brought it up.

Flop: check raise for value?? WHAT?? With that flop? What if they all check behind you? Check-raising may be okay with an Ace or King on the board, but not with that flop. BET BET BET!!! Don't get cute, if they all check how can you know where you stand at all? I really don't think the turn play is standard, I would have raised. Well if you would have raised on the turn you would have really gotten some information, but even given the passive turn play, raise on the river and call a re-raise, if you lose to a higher set so be it, but playing this way will pay off much better in the long term.

thought you were bet into on the river, well its easy enough bet for value on the river, and call a raise, why fold now? Obviously he's not too happy with his hand.

Your checkraise attempt I think you should 3 bet the flop instead of smoothcalling when it gets back to you. Most of the time an unknown is only calling and not 3 betting. I think I would usually bet this flop instead of CRing, but I don't hate the CR line (as I like the occasional long bomb attempt).

This would change the dynamic of the later streets, but keep in mind at some point it becomes prudent to start slowing down.

As you played it the river is bet/call.

You should go see a neurologist after not 3-betting this turn, as you may have an undiagnosed aneurysm.

bet the river because button is now scared.

[/ QUOTE ]

Who cares about button? Unless he has JJ (which he isn't folding for 1 bet) or unless he happens to have A3 (which he is never folding ever), we are crushing him. I'm way, way more worried about getting check-raised by MP2. I think i would still bet, though.

You are losing here most of the time. But I think MP2 has 2 pair (65?) and Button has an overpair often enough to make calling profitable, if barely. Crying call.

there is 4 to a straight on board, and he is very likely not going to bet with AA/KK/QQ, and since i am ahead of him so often, i want his money.

That's fine. I just don't understand what button being scared has to do with our decision to bet. The fact that we're so far ahead of him is a good reason to bet, though.

Now looking at how Button played this hand, what conclusions can you come to?

Could I have gotten away on the river when it was 2 back to me and not closing the action? I didn't given Button credit for anything that beat me except maybe JJ.

You just made hella Sklansky bucks.

10-04-2005, 11:38 PM
You're too results oriented looking back at this hand, period.

Mp2 limped with 78 offsuit (what??!!) and button raised with q-3 offsuit (even more WHAT??!!), and you're telling me that you have no reads at this table at all? These guys sound like complete donks, and you couldn't tell that even after watching a few passes?

Come out betting/raising/capping flop, 3 betting turn, and i might throw in one bet or call if its bet to me. No way am I folding this thinking someone stayed on a straight draw to a raise, cap, then 3 bet or a preflop raiser has a 3 and is raising on a gutshot, period. These guys are donks, period, and when you have a set, you have to show down just based on the likely possibility they are betting with a some medium-high pocket pair and ace-junk paired. See this too often in the micros to fold a set.

As you could see, I couldn't fold it. I was almost positive that I had Button beat (barring JJ), but not sure about MP2. But calling two and then one more was not fun.

Despite the limp by MP2, he played it good. Button however played horrible.

3-bet the turn. Fold the river.
