View Full Version : A phrase I hear a ton (this may be OT) but don't understand:

What is "bonus whoring"? I'm relatively new to on-line poker (up 150 bucks from a 50 dollar deposit on the 6s in the past week, though I'm probably more lucky than good). So what is it? I ONLY play SNG's, have never played anything else.

You play on a site, if it offers a bonus. For example you grind like 500 raked hands to get a 100$ bonus on party. Then you move on and play som raked hands on stars etc.

From the Internet Forum FAQ (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=1282525&page=0&view=colla psed&sb=5&o=14&fpart=1)
Bonus Whoring

Slang for the act of finding a bonus, clearing it, and then leaving the site.

I don't want to end up going into a 10 tourney slump and busting out. I'm a poor college kid, I figured I'd move up to the 10/1's when I get up to 250ish?

This post is OT (especially since you need to play cash games on certain sites--Party for instance--to release bonuses). However, "Bonus Whoring" is simply the process by which you play to acquire deposit bonuses. Some sites, such as Party, have bonuses that are released as long as you simply play a minimum number of raked hands. Other sites require you to earn some number of player points, which are a function of hands played as well as the stakes. If you do some research, it is possible to earn a decent amount of money from bonuses. If you really want some information, it seems like www.bonuswhores.com (http://www.bonuswhores.com) is the place to go.

Good Luck!

Problem is, I didn't get a bonus from PP because my debit card won't work with them. Don't have a checking account, so had to use the stupid phone card method that doesn't give me any bonus...

Screw the bonus part, just go whoring to raise your bankroll. good times.

Listen, I had this exact attitude when I started playing the $6s. Playing the $6s sucked. Yeah they are relatively soft, but even when you do nail those 1sts and 2nds, the small bumps you get to your bankroll make it seem like a total waste of time, and a lot of this has to do with the extra 50 cents you pay in rake.

Given the same situation I'd rather just go out and get a regular temp job, drag in a good $400, and have a go at the $11s.
