View Full Version : Your favorite home sick song when drinking

10-03-2005, 10:33 PM
Hi everyone,

This is mostly destinated to those who are living away from their hometown or anyone else who sometime feels like listening to that kind of music.

To the point, what's your favorite(s) song(s) when you need to think of home/life/love. I usually listen to those when I'm drinking alone enjoying a brew wishing I was with a couple of folks I miss.

--My choices--
Johnny Cash - Hurt
Take my breath away
Foreigner - I want to know what love is
Sammy Haggar - In this country
My hometown /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I don't get homesick. I hate my hometown. I have sworn never to go back there, except for a family emergency.

What do you get when you get your car, your wife and your dog back?

A country song played backwards.

For drunken nostalgia, few things beat the Pogues.

Johnny Cash is a decent second, I guess.

The piano man is the only song that has ever evoked the felling you are talking about, but it wasnt homesickness, I dont know what it was.

10-03-2005, 10:56 PM

I don't think so. I sometimes get nostalgic when I drink. I don't have a favorite though. Lots of different music reminds me of different times & people in my life. It's nice to get good buzz and remenisce sometimes.

Yeah I see what you mean. It's just that feeling not exactly when you are homesick but similar...listening to God Bless the child right. Kinda same as that /images/graemlins/smile.gif for some reason I'm picturing Tim Allen in Home Improvement, lol man gotta show their feelings, hehe.

This is gonna sound weak or not make much sense to you Merkins, but the Pogues did a version of a Eurovision song 'What's another year' that rocks! It is all about longing and regret, so I'm drifting OT here...

And if we're talking nostalgia - Springsteen's The River is waaaaaay up there.

Being from Boston, "Dirty Water", "Sweet Caroline" and anything from the J Geils Band and of course, Boston.

Being a Billy Joel fan, "Great Suburban Showdown" runs through my head every time I fly home:

Flying east on a plane
drinking all that free champagne...

Sit around with the folks
tell the same old tired jokes
Bored to death on Sunday afternoon
Mom and Dad, me and you
and the outdoor barbeque
Think I'm gonna hide out in my room...

Well the streets all look the same
And I have to play the game
We'll all sit around in the kitchen chairs
with the tv on and the neighbors there...
