So far it seems that most players win peanuts online.
Can this be because people still prefer playing in real games(live)? Or is online poker just considered a hobby?

I personally do much better online than in live play, with the exception of tournaments.

I think most people play lower limits online than they do live.
I think most people play for fun when they get home from work, and some extra on the weekends, its nice to have a hobby that pays you money. Very few people it seems attempt to make a living playing online, altho there are a few posters here who do. I personally play online beacuse I love the game, find it much more intellectually stimulating than watching TV, and like the extra money which for me is about $750 a month. Its not gonna make me rich, but as I said the money is not my primary reason for playing
