View Full Version : Foxwoods Follies... the 2+2 edition: $5-10 kill game

BarronVangorToth

Last night somehow my drunken friends and my equally drunken self found our way to Foxwoods. I try to only play low limits in these conditions so I sat at the $5-$10 kill game.

After being up a few hundred in a few hours, one of the players next to me figures out that I'm on this site and we start chatting as we continue to drink.

And this hand came up.

Some guy limps.
2+2 completes in the small blind.
I have Qx in the big blind.

Flop comes

Q-x-x with one /images/graemlins/club.gif.

He checks.
I bet.
Limper folds.
2+2'er calls.

Pot: 5 small bets / 2.5 big bets

Turn: Q /images/graemlins/club.gif

He checks, I bet, he calls.

River: X /images/graemlins/club.gif

He bets out, I raise, he three-bets, and I figure he has a bigger kicker on his Q so I just call and he flips up /images/graemlins/club.gif /images/graemlins/club.gif

And I'm not even going to say anything when he says, "If you talk about this hand, I'm going to say the whole table limped so I had the odds to chase my runner-runner."

Priceless.

Foxwoods ahoy.

Hey, it was justified by my saying "just this once" on the flop. I had to combat my tight-weak but semi-competent postflop image by giving the illusion that I was not, in fact, even the slightest bit competent either pre- or psot-flop.

And were you at the table when the 8s accidentally capped it preflop, after MY EP raise and our swearing friend's threebet with 94o.. and won? That was golden.

Table image is far more important beyond these low limit games; far be it that I think anyone at the table was paying attention but the two of us.

Also, the guy that resembled Grissom from CSI:Las Vegas was a bit of a bitch when it came to side bets. He offered me $5 to divulge the contents of a hand.. I haggled my way up to $7.50 (yes, I'm that much of a whore) but we never shook, so I refused to tell him. The same thing occured later on for another $5. He also made about 3 side bets with the other annoying guy in the 6s at the start of my session, including a 5 minute discussion of whether or not it's appropriate to wager on the over/under of the contents of another man's pockets.

For what it's worth, he claimed to have won $2500 playing the under on total runs in that night's NYY-BOS game at 11, so he was up about $2100 on the night at that point. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Exactly. If I knew there was another 2+2er at my table I wouldn't let them know, who I was. I'd simply adjust accordingly.

I think this is stupid.

I can tell very quickly whether someone is a 2+2 player or not; usually within like an hour or so of live play.

I assume they can tell the same of me. Letting them know is not going to change much.

It is a problem if you start arousing the suspicions of the fish at the table, but if you are discreet, I find acknowledging someone else's poker background can be interesting, and often leads to more interesting table conversations than usual (hopefully non-poker related ones). This idea that "I don't want the 2+2er to know I'm a 2+2er because then he'll know how to beat me" is misguided.

If both party's are actually decent 2+2ers playing correctly and observing their opponent's play, they should be able to realize what's up pretty quickly without explicit discussion. If one side can't someone's doing something wrong.

Barron reminded me, to a disturbing degree, of another poster (mosch). I felt weird dropping a sup bro out of the blue with a player in between us. Once she left, it was pretty easy to discuss 2+2 without anyone else being remotely aware.

I had vastly more fun letting the cat out of the bag than I would have otherwise.

i dont think theres anything wrong with dropping a sup bro, i just like to wait till im away from the table to mention 2+2

i became a 2+2er by doing something with an underpair and dude on party was like "that was the correct move, are you a 2+2er?" i was like "what? oh thats sklanskys website right?" and it all started there

i think it is a good policy to just never talk strategy/2+2 at the table, i thought this was something everyone here pretty much agreed on, its just as bad in my oppinion as saying, "you idiot, whyd you fish for that gut draw on the river?"

While Fight Club is one of my favorite films, how he broached the subject didn't break the rules of Fight Club.

He said it to me in such a manner that no one could hear him.

While we did chat about the internet, no one really could know what we were talking about.

In short: Tyler wouldn't kick him out.
