View Full Version : Is this even worth it? Just dump the turn?

Villain in this hand is 44/4.5/2
No specific read, but after the hand he appeared to be on massive tilt. If I had been paying enough attention to the table to notice that I would have called the river or raised the turn.

I'm more inclined to raise this flop and get a free turn than I am to ever fold this.

raise the flop, bet the turn when you spike a pair, checkbehind on the river

raise or call the flop, but once you call the flop I raise that turn every day.

Is raising the flop here standard procedure? Against an unknown will u take a free turn card UI?

I've stopped playing draws as aggressively as I have been, mostly check/calling them. The reason is that missed draws have been costing me a lot of money. I just feel that if they are going to show down A high and any pair, there is little to no folding equity. I'm not talking about situations where the pot is big and I'm value raising..I'm talking about heads up/3 way postflop. Against a horrible player leading out into 3 players, is this logic flawed?

I think I should have raised the turn on this hand and called a 3 bet then folded the river if I missed.

If you just call a 3bet he will lead the next card. If you intend on calling the turn , consider capping the flop. Most of the time after a cap you will get a freecard nearly always. And if you dont hit you save 1 sb.

Well I was going to just call the flop and raise the turn, I was talking about him 3 betting the turn (with a 7).

I used to cap for the free card constantly but I've stopped doing that because as my aggression got higher and higher my opponents were leading into me on the turn A LOT. I think perhaps this play should be saved for opponents who aren't as willing to donk every street.

Why didn't you raise the turn? What makes you think the lagtard has a 7?

If you call the turn I think you should call a non-club non A/K river.

I have been working on scaling down my aggression in some areas, this was obviously a mistake this hand. I felt like I was losing a lot of money on missed draws but my hand was stronger than I was giving it credit for on the turn.

When he bet the flop my first impression would have been "well...that means he probably DOESN'T have a 7."

he could have had 2 clubs here or 89 or 54 or anything else for that matter..... but I'm sure not afraid of a 7 because the more common situation would have him CHECKING if he made trips.

Depending on my image of recent I will either call the flop and raise the turn (if I think the opponent can fear ME holding a 7 to induce a fold enough of the time)....or I will raise the flop for a free-card and then possibly just check/call the turn.
