Give the man his money and start a new game.

If Lorinda is pushing, you better fold /images/graemlins/grin.gif

You flopped one of the three possible hands you want to with A9 /images/graemlins/heart.gif

UTG may have trip tens, but more likely AK or AQ. If he shows AT then so be it. Call.

This is a $5, the guy was chasing his flush, and he probably caught. Pay him off anyway. That, or he has A-4 or AxKs

Hero has A /images/graemlins/heart.gif 9 /images/graemlins/heart.gif (two pair, aces and nines).
Outcome: BB wins t1850.

Some follow-up questions and thoughts:

Pre-flop:

Could I have played this hand any better? Who advocates folding or raising this hand pre-flop, and why? At this level, I find that many will limp UTG with small-mid pockets, Ax, KQ, etc. Considering this, and the fact that the majority of the time the button and blinds will come along for the ride, than it must be a mistake to fold. Am I correct?

Similarly, while raising might (at this level you never know) eliminate hands like 8s 3s, the chances of being re-raised or playing this pot HU against an UTG limper with a marginal drawing hand, clearly means that this is also a mistake. Is this also correct reasoning?

Flop:

Does anyone have a problem with my flop raise? I think the majority of the time MHIG, and I want to give a 4-flush incorrect odds to draw. I also want to find out how much UTG likes his hand.

However, is there an argument for simply calling the flop bet and keeping the pot small so that I can safely fold my hand if another spade comes on the turn and I meet resistance? I couldn’t imagine this being a +EV play though. Am I correct?

Turn:

Most of you advocated a call even though you thought that I was behind. Why is this correct? I too thought that I was probably behind, but pot odds (I was getting ~3:1), and the chance that I was actually ahead, convinced me that it was +EV to call the all-in. I am not a math guy, so could if someone could run the numbers to convince me that calling here is +EV, it would be greatly appreciated. Specifically, considering how villain played the hand, and his possible holdings, am I actually going to win this hand at least 25% of the time?

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I appreciate all of your comments.

All-in on the flop. Flush draws will call you in 5.50, and probably any high ace too.

I think you should count yourself lucky... not a lot of people get to see someone play a 2-8s, UTG 8 handed AND see them make it win.

I can pretty definitively say, I've never played a 2-8suited unless it was in the BB... and I'm pretty sure I've never won with it in the blind.

Having read your post... I can now imagine how that would look.

I want to lay this down but the 3:1 pot odds are tough to turn down.

All in on the flop sounds great.
