View Full Version : The rake effect
What effect does the High rake have in micro limit hold em. In most of the games below 3/6 I have noticed that the rake can be as high as a small bet. Over the long run how much does this effect the expectation of sound play. I know in big games the rake is usually never more the 4 to 5 dollors and is a smaller % than micro's.
The rake equates to about 2.5-3bb per hundred hands for me. It's a bitch.
Find a good rakeback deal.

Write your congressman to get online poker legalized in the US. The increased competition from the big casino/gaming companies entering the market will, among many other positive changes, drive down rakes.

Yeah I've seen this effect. The pot gets around 3.7$~ and the rake goes OVER 1bb when the limit is $0.25/$0.5 . If I watch these 0.5$/1$ games there is no such a big rake. I got to get up there /images/graemlins/grin.gif

For me rake is normally about 2 to 2.5BB/100. Not a big deal since you really have no choice do you. It IS a big deal for loose players but for good tight players it's not a factor.
For me, at the 6max .50/1.00 tables at partypoker, the rake is coming out to 5 BB/100. Ouch. Luckily, the amount I make in bonuses from party and skins makes up for it.

It is a big deal for overly tight players as well.

For overly tight players the blind is more of a problem then the rake.
Why would the rake be bad for overly tight guys (not arguing - just looking for insite).

You are right that their true problem is overcoming the cost of the blinds. My thoughts were that the rake is probably the borderline between profitablity and break-even when you are just staying ahead of the blinds.

True...but the tight player should be adjusting his play with the blind structure. You could do some, but not too many, adjustments to compensate for different rake amounts.

Depends on the site for rake. Party used to be an average of half a SB on their .50/1 tables. Not now. Absolute and Pokerstars have better rake.
