Villian seems to be a decent player. I've been having trouble with these situations lately. I raise infrequently (and so does everyone else), so then my raises are perceived as super strong, so I slowplay instead, which is probably still the worse option oftentimes.

What the [censored] dude. Raise the flop, he'll easily push with AK/images/graemlins/club.gif/AQ/images/graemlins/club.gif/KQ/images/graemlins/club.gif maybe even any Ax/images/graemlins/club.gif. On top of that, he'll definitely call with QQ+ if not 3-bet because it's a really connected board.

And when he checks the turn, bet the damn thing.

Err... flat calling preflop and on the flop is bad enough, but I guess you can make a case for trapping. The turn is even worse: why would you ever check it through? Do you pretty much never bet?

Raise teh hell out of that flop. If he has an overpair, he is done. AKs would be great as he would sure push that. I would raise that flop up to 100 or so. Not a board to slow play. Even if you dont raise flop, you have to bet that turn. There are quite a few cards you dont want to see on that river. So if you call that flop, you have to make a pot sized bet on that turn.

If you want to trap, better line...lead the flop, call his raise and check raise the hell out of the turn.

Raise the flop; its a draw heavy board. So he puts you on draw and wants to play hopefully. Anyway, raise flop. Bet turn, play for all your money.

I think I just vomited in my mouth reading that turn play. Sets are not invincible, and how are you going to get any money in the pot if you don't bet? You expect him to just bluff all-in on the river? bet the turn, charge any draws, and allow him to hang himself if he has some mediocre hand he doesn't feel like betting but thinks is good.
As for the river-the check behind on the turn indicates such weakness that it probably can induce a bluff often enough to make a call here correct.

I still don't think that I should have called on the river, but what do I know. I agree that my play up to the river was horrendous.

Thanks all for responding to a forum newbie. Next time I am about to make a questionable play, I will picture you all vomiting in your mouths or banging your head against the monitor or whatever, and maybe I will hold back. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

basic concept: don't give cheap or free cards to draws.

the reason you slow play is to ain more value on your hand on later streets. your turn play was so awful that you deserved to have lay that down. i agree with the fold, but damn your play was awful

That McSucked. Not only did you misplay the flop and turn, but you McFunked the river, too.
