Party Poker 10/20 Hold'em (6 max, 4 handed) converter (http://www.selachian.com/tools/bisonconverter/hhconverter.cgi)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with 2/images/graemlins/spade.gif, A/images/graemlins/spade.gif.
Hero raises, 1 fold, SB calls, BB 3-bets, Hero calls, SB calls.

Flop: (9 SB) K/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, 5/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, A/images/graemlins/heart.gif (3 players)
SB checks, BB bets, Hero calls, SB calls.

Turn: (6 BB) 6/images/graemlins/spade.gif (3 players)
SB checks, BB bets, Hero calls, SB calls.

River: (9 BB) 5/images/graemlins/club.gif (3 players)
SB checks, BB bets, Hero calls

Reads are important here. Button is TAG. SB is 70/20/.3 and a huge calling station. BB is a 40/20/4 lagtard.

Nice. Might be able to raise the river.

With a naked ace? I'd rather pop the turn.

I'd like to raise the flop to try to try to knock out SB and also to see what BB thinks of a raise.

Hah, so, flop raise, turn raise, river raise, standard and "raise somewhere."

I like the line.

But do me a personal favor, and change your avatar.

Board's paired so Hero splits with any A except AK (and AA).

I almost always raise the flop to try to knock out SB. Why is this incorrect?

Thanks,
Cartman

Because of all of the preflop action you have to raise the flop to try to make the SB fold, or at least make a mistake in calling. If you just call you let him call correctly with gutshots and what not.

I agree. the pot is 10 SB, there are 2 diamonds and 2 to broadway. if he has any piece he's getting odds to call. against an idiot he's ahead often enough to protect his hand

I'm trying to see if letting him get in cheap on the flop is small enough of a mistake to be outweighed by the ease of play, the mistakes he makes further in the hand and the extra bets I get from the BB betting the worst hand.

If the BB 3 bets the flop after you raise, whats your plan for the rest of the hand?
