I bought a used phone off eBay from a seller with 100% eBay feedback. In the item description, he claimed he bought the phone in a live auction, but it really seems like it was stolen.

Is there a way to find out if a phone was stolen other than asking Verizon? (service is under mom's name, don't have her info)

What makes it seem stolen?

Ask the seller for the ESN (Electronic Serial Number) of the phone. It's usally an 8-digit hexadecimal or 11-digit decimal. (At least with Sprint it is) Then call up the provider and have them run a check to see if that ESN has been flagged as stolen.

You shouldn't need your moms info just to run a check like this.
