I have been working on my early game a lot lately and I this hand came up. I used to rarely raise preflop with 88 in level 1. I would just limp. Also, I had all intentions of folding on the turn BUT the timing of his bet was really weird and he bet much more than I figured he would bet with either a J or a 4. Also, I was told if I have a "good read" then this play is fine. Well, I have honestly never really felt this way about a hand where I just "knew" he would fold. I am usually pretty sure but there was something different about this. I am not one to play by feel and that is what this was, i think. All that being said, was this a good play or just plain stupid?

I think you played this fine, though I don't know if I would've gambled on the turn there. It's certainly not standard, but in poker, sometimes you want to do unstandard things.

I act on feelings like this often. Especially when I am playing fewer tables and VERY often in MTTs, I have had great success with these plays and I really think it is an almost unteachable skill that is essential very high level play.
