View Full Version : KaneKungFu123's Life

So a friend of mine who shall remain nameless and I were talking and he seems to think that KangKungFu pretty much has the perfect life. I then asked him if he would trade his life for Kane's with the condition that he would die 20 years younger than if he didn't trade lives. He still replied yes instantly, and he's not a fuckup like some people on here. Bottom line, who else would make this trade--their current life for Kane's minus 20 years off the end?

TheIrishThug

my present is less than 20 yrs, so making that switch would make it the end NOW. so i'll pass.

Trade places with Kane? Hmmm...well, it would mean that I'd have a chance to fulfill my lifelong dream of competing in the Special Olympics. So, sure.

Would I have to be a spineless, lying, and dishonorable person as well?

Hell, I think my answer is no regardless of the answer to the above question.

I'm with Hopey on this one.

I find myself jealous of Kane, roughly zero times divided by his total posts.

I find myself in the spectrum of mildly-amused---to----amusedly and patronizingly disgusted, about every time divided by his total posts outside of MH/NL and his one funny, though sadly not only, post in MH/FL.

If people don't like the man for whatever reasons, and I have no idea what kind of money he makes, both seem irrelevant to me with regards to the question "Are you jealous of the lifestyle?". Frankly, it's hard for me to understand why anyone wouldn't be jealous. Taking off and living ad hoc in some foreign cultures sounds really enticing to me. Maybe this is because I am married with children and and the feasibilty of such an endevour is dubious, at best.

Then again, maybe I'd change my opinion after a week of no air conditioning.

when did i say that i effed prostitutes?

InchoateHand
09-28-2005, 10:30 PM
Yeah, maybe its because I'm not married, though engaged, and the things I value in my life continue to occur: ie, travelling incredibly extensively, speaking multiple foreign languages, having a long-running, fulfilling relationship, carrying on studies that engage and expand me, etc.

I run around and partied, and it got old real quick. And never did I have to dip into the hooker pile.

So yeah, maybe thats why I wouldn't be jealous. And I imagine the vast majority of people reading this board, who have lived lives that also compare favorably with KKF's, by whatever their personal standards, also don't feel trapped or envious.

i'm not doubting that youre not obsessed with material goods, i get the impression you don't live a wasteful or expensive lifestyle like many would given your income/state in life. but look at your financial status, its a little ridiculous how you and other young poker players have just bounced into this stratospheric tax bracket. im sure living in thailand or other places in the east isnt expensive, but you do have a cash cow to fall back on and its not easy to put yourself in a normal young persons shoes. if you werent playing poker is there anything you could do which would make you anywhere near as much? for 99.99% of young people, no. poker is something you can do without any of the qualifications needed to make that money in the "real" world.

so you saying "money isnt an issue" is a little weird, im not disagreeing that you dont need as much money as you have, but you see my point?

i am jealous of kkf in some ways (though jealousy isnt the right word at all), since he has a truckload of money, and is doing what he wants, traveling, seeing the world, and experiencing some great stuff. could anyone argue with that?

jealousy isnt the right word since i do just think hes got a good life, but im not envious since its nothing i cant achieve for myself. my life is great and even though i make a fraction of what he makes poker has opened up many many doors and given me much freedom. so i wouldnt trade with him, although he has stuff i want.

I moved to Thailand in 2002 with less than $5K and never played poker there. It does not take much to live there and jobs are pretty easy to come by. Perhaps the poker and it's implied good income were included in the OP, but if it is just the locale and all its benefits, just go. You'll love it.

I know KKF lives in Bangkok because of the Internet, but you can do better IMO. Bangkok is 30X bigger than the next biggest city there. And it is not the only place with broadband anymore.

You're 19 and play NL cash from what I understand?

I find this very strange. KKF seems to be doing what he wants right now and enjoying it, so good for him. But his life is one that is very attainable for many intelligent people. I can't imagine someone wanting to sacrifice anything to trade lives with KKF. If you want a live like his, go live it.

KJS

Plenty of whities there. How many depends where you go. The Thai economy is very dependent on tourism, so many people there speak English. They know that if they want a crack at tourist $ they need to know it. That makes it very accessible. You can go travel there without knowing a word of Thai and have incredible experiences. Then if you make the effort to learn Thai (and use it) you can have even cooler experiences that many foreigners are too intimated to try. It all depends on your commitment to be being there and acculturating. Much like anywhere, you can survive in your bubble of people who are just like you or you can venture out.

I agree with Kane that most of us (on these boards) have the freedom to choose -- I already made my choices and am engaged and working a career. Sure, sometimes I feel jealous of people with the freedom of KKF, but I have made my choices and I wouldn't sacrifice the things I love about my life for some sort of glorified picture of somebody elses life.

The grass is allways greener. Have you considered the fact that your friend may be depressed/disullusioned/unhappy with his life?

in jun 04 i borrowed some money from my mom and sold about 1000 worth of pirated cd's on ebay until they banned my account. then i found poker on the web, lost about 300 playing $11 sng's. then bought 5 or 6 books and studied for two weeks. borrowed another 300 from my mom to play again, and paid her back in about 2 weeks. for about 5 months i grinded it out in that idiot game, being way to cautious with my bankroll. in dec 03-may 04 i played 1/2 nl 8 tables for about 1500-2000/week. then i got bored and started reading alot of books and decided i wanted to wander. before i left i took a shot at 5/10 for some reason, and i destroyed the game, and realized that if i kept playing that id be rich soon, but i wanted to travel so i did starting aug 04. in dec 04 i was supposed to return to go to college but didnt want to, so i returned to playing poker in internet cafes. i was again too cautious. finally in jan 05 returning to 5/10 with good results. in jun 05 i started at 10/20 and havent looked back.
