I watched that show religiously when I was a kid, and I'm ashamed to admit that I never knew it was "that alarm gives out a warning" in the lyrics. Didn't figure it out until my girlfriend mentioned it. Oh well, I still have my cardboard cutout of Kelly with the volleyball under my bed.

Edit: I was always partial to the Growing Pains theme song as well.

IMO, they are interchangeable. very close.

if i were to actually list the best and not necessarily my favorite (though i like them), the list would have to include cheers and sanford and son at the very top.

Wow, this got me to thinking, and I just did a once over and realized I hadd this song all wrong...

Well, I wake up in the morning,
And the 'larm gives out a warning,
And I don't think I'll ever make it on time.

By the time I grab my books,
And I give myself a look,
I'm at the corner, just in time to see the bus fly by.

It's all right, 'cos I'm Saved by the Bell.

If the teacher pops a test,
I know I'm in a mess,
And my dog ate all my homework last night.

Riding low in my chair,
She won't know that I'm there,
If I can hand it in tomorrow it'll be all right.

It's all right, 'cos I'm Saved by the Bell.

I thought on the test, he'll "Never Miss" not "in a mess"

and I also had trouble with the alarm giving out a warning...

as far as song goes, I agree with whoever said the Cheers theme, as well as M.A.S.H. just brings back memories for whatever reason.

[ QUOTE ]
Welcome back,
Your dreams were your ticket out.

Welcome back,
To that same old place that you laughed about.

Well the names have all changed since you hung around,
But those dreams have remained and they're turned around.

Who'd have thought they'd lead ya (Who'd have thought they'd lead ya)
Here where we need ya (Here where we need ya)

Yeah we tease him a lot cause we've hot him on the spot, welcome back,
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back.

Number Two:

[ QUOTE ]
Now, the world don't move to the beat of just one drum,
What might be right for you, may not be right for some.
A man is born, he's a man of means.
Then along come two, they got nothing but their jeans.

But they got, Diff'rent Strokes.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.

Everybody's got a special kind of story
Everybody finds a way to shine,
It don't matter that you got not alot
So what,
They'll have theirs, and you'll have yours, and I'll have mine.
And together we'll be fine....

Because it takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.
Yes it does.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.

This song actually charted, after being used as a theme song. So it's a fantastic answer. "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" is so good that you don't even have to refer to "Cheers" to have people recognize it. I personally like the one from "Good Times" a lot. I also like the MASH theme song, "Suicide is Painless" just for the irony.

If this wasn't limited to sitcoms, I'd be pimping English country-gospel-techno-acidhouse-blues band A3 and their fantastic song, "Woke Up This Morning," which is being used by The Sopranos. A3 is incredible, and everyone could do much worse than to buy their albums Exile on Coldharbour Lane, La Peste, and Power In The Blood.

I was actually going to post Woke Up This Morning in the best intro thread, as there's a spoken word intro on the record to this (and a lot of others). I don't have the whole thing by heart, but it starts with, "And after 3 days of drinking with Larry Love, I just get an inkling to go on home." and ends with "So long, John Coltrane. So long, Duke Ellington and Leslie Young. So long, Billie Holliday and Ella Fitzgerald. So long, Jimmy Reed. So long, Muddy Waters and so long, Howlin' Wolf." then the sample of the Wolf screaming out, "Woke up this morning!" as it rips into the main bit, familiar to all Sopranos fans.

Another great non-sitcom theme, "The Twilight Zone."

That song just f'ing rocks.

I guess I dont know as much Seinfeld as I thought I did, but what is the Costanza reference about?

Also another good one was...

Here we are, face to face
A couple of Silver Spoons.
Hopin’ to find, we’re two of a kind
Making a go, making it grow.

Together, we’re going to find our way.
Together, taking the time each day.
To learn all about those things you just can’t buy.

Two Silver spoons together.
You and I together (We’re going to find our way)
You and I together (We’re going to find our way)
You and I together.

I wish we weren't limited to sit-coms, I've got a longer list. Hell, since Wide World of Sports and Hawaii Five-O are getting mentioned, here's mine: The Tonight Show (Johnny Carson era), Dallas, Rockford Files, Bonanza, and Monday Night Football (Cosell era).
