1st hand. I limp MP1 with JJ 3 people call and BB checks

Flop KKK

BB bets 60 I call and so do 2 others

Turn 7 Everybody checks

River J

BB bets 150 I call 1 fold 1 raise to 450

BB folds 300 for me to call and I fold

I can't work this out. Should I have bet the turn? Called the river? He either has a K or a J I expect.

Why did you fold? What are you afraid of exactly? Besides the K. If he has a J, you have the same full house. I don't understand your reasoning. BTW, I'd raise the flop or turn. And definately call or push the river.

I say in the title that I played it wrong. I thought he had the King so I folded.

I raise this PF blah blah blah but basically after 2 people call the flop behind you, you are drawing dead to a nonexistent bad beat jackpot.

odds of flopping quads with one in your hand: 9799:1
odds that this hand with all the preflop limps and turn checks that someone is holding QQ or AA: pretty slim.
odds that the river betting is consistant with a J, or an A, or a 7 or a pocket pair < J: pretty good.

I think I scoop, chop, or go broke here, but I'm sure not folding.

Just curious - why do you think it is a good idea to limp with JJ? You are letting anyone with a QK or A a cheap chance to beat your good hand. You should want to get this heads up with a raise unless you think you have a good chance of being raised.

Secondly, There is only one king in the deck and the chances that someone is also slowplaying Aces or Queens is pretty slim. There is also only one card in the deck that will tie. Against the majority of hands you are well out in front. Also - in poker people bluff in these situations. I think folding is weak but not betting puts you in a situation where you have no sense of what your opponent might have. You had a strong starting hand and didn't bet. You had a good flop and didin't bet, you had a good turn and didn't bet and you had a good river and folded after calling.

Just curious - why do you think it is a good idea to limp with JJ?

Please search.

Approx. half of the regulars here raise with JJ in EP and half don't. There have been many bitter fights over this play and I suspect nobody has fully recovered enough yet to want to go through it again, hence Adanthar's "blah"

Edit: In short

It's a good hand, don't give free cards = raise
It's a small pair, sets are your friend = call.

Raise preflop

Raise the flop any PP will call drawing dead most times but you want to knockout aces queens and jacks. Sometimes you will get an overly frisky lower PP going allin.

You played this hand way too passively.
