View Full Version : Need a solid player to coach me. Will pay you. Read inside.

Hi, I'm fairly new to this site. I have been playing online poker for about 7 months now. For the 7 months I'm about even. I play in MTT's and SNGs. I'm hoping a I can have a solid player to watch me play in a couple MTT's and evaluate my play.

A little about myself.
My best finish is 1st in a Stars $10+1 tourney w/ about 1800 players so I can play a little bit anyways. My problem is that I can't seem to get over the hump. Other than that win I always seem to keep my bankroll about the same. I recently finished HOH1 and HOH2, as well as the theory of poker.

My main weakness.

I feel like my main weakness is that I always trust that the other player has me beat. If I am raised after I bet 2nd pair, or top pair with a low kicker I almost always fold.

Please PM me if you're interested. I figure this is my last gasp effort to be a profitable poker player.

Thanks for your time.

Also, you may see I only have a handful of posts. I haven't posted much, but I think i've read every single post on this site. In an effort to better my game.

What do you need the person to do? Just out of curiosity? Sit with you?

If you're reading 'politics' and 'OOT', then you need to be more selective.

I was thinking just watching me play today and maybe logging on IM or through email.

LOL. I was referring to General, MTT and One tables!

Please do not take this the wrong way, but everyone in the world is "about even" when it comes to gambling. The first thing you need to do is be honest and go from there.

Hey, what's your beef?

The guys writes he won the PStars $10 w/1,800 players - that's like $4,000, should easily cover 7 months of low-buy in SnGs and MTTs for a player who's trying to learn.

There's absolutely nothing flamboyant or bragging about his post.

Everybody here loses if new posters are discouraged by arrogant Internet muscles.

Stop attacking new posters without any reason!

Best,

I really don't know if there is another way to take it. He said he was about even, you implied he was lying.

I just got back from the store.. Thanks for defending me. Ya so I'm saying i'm down about $3700 other than that tourney. In gambling in life I'm way down, but as far as this site goes I'm probably somewhere around even honestly.

Have you ever met any gambler that has said anything other than "I am about even"? I have never heard anyone say "I am down big time right now".

My only point was for him to be honest in his evaluation of where he stands (we all should). If he really is "about even", then great. An honest assesment of the situation is necessary for us all in order to improve. If I am diluting myself with "I am about even" when in reality I am getting killed then where does that leave me? Why is that so harsh?

Maybe the guy I actually responded to has thick skin and has not taken offense to this at all as none was meant.

IN gambling as a whole I'm way down as far as Casino, Horses, etc. But as far as this site im honestly about even or maybe up a grand. I won a $10+1 tourney and a bunch of $100 and $200 SNGs and made a little money on 15-30 and 30-60 tables, but ive lost my share too.

09-27-2005, 11:29 AM
I didn't want to start an arguement with this post. I just talk to people on line that say they consistenly win week in and week out playing poker. I might win $500 one week then lose $1000 the next week, then win $800 etc. I cant' keep it consistent. I just need some tweaking of my game.

This blew my mind. You start out by saying you won one multi, and I've won one multi ($20), so I'm reading along thinking we're in the same boat. Then later in the same sentence you start talking about being playing and being competitive at $100 & $200 SNGs and 15-30 & 30-60 tables. Now I'm not even in the same ocean. I'm not even sure what my question is.

LOL. When I won the $10 MTT I had a nice roll so I immediately went to a $30/60 game and had an amazing run. The next time I went in to a $30/60 I seriously lost $1500 in 45 minutes so Im done w/ those rooms. I feel that I can be competative in $100 SNG's but i'd have a real small ROI. I just need help getting to the next level. I mean right now I'm playing in a $15 SNG and a $6.50 SNG just to try to get better and concentrate on my opponents more before I go back to high stakes

my initial read was that temp was being an ass clown also...now after seeing this madness it appears as though he has hit his OESD (did he have a flush draw also?)

thats ok tho, because op is in the right place...i was never able to admit i was a fish until i became a winner, because i truly thought i was a good/winning player

i hope you find the coach you seek...if not, just PM people with questions and start posting...its a lot more rewarding

Also I all I'm asking is someone to just go in and watch me play a few SNG's.. I don't need to discuss my play for hours. (although that would help)My name on Stars is Toddy3.

Hey Pokertom,
I am gonna be honest with you about this. I was in the same situation as you were, I placed 2nd in a Pokerstars 20+2 for 3k, then after playing SNGs, multis, and stuff I was down almost $2000. Also some serious downswing in limit play accounted for this. But after that I figured there had to be something wrong with my game. After that I read this list of books, each one key. 1st and foremost, The Theory of Poker. This book is one that not only teaches you the math, but the mindset that goes along with it. Then after that I read Super System 2, I think this book goes a long way in that it tries to reach that aggression inside of you. After that It was tournament Poker for Advanced Players by David Sklansky. This book is really meant for some advanced play, but the tips and tricks you can pick up in it are invaluable. Finally Harrington on Holdem 1&2. While I think the first book teaches are more conservative play, the final book really helps when it gets down to bubble time. In addition if you want to improve ur limit game I recommend Small Stakes Holdem and Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players. I highly recommend you read this list. If you want to know my success after that. I have gotten first in the Empire 10k gauranteed, 1st in a 50+5 multitable, and a few more final table finishes. Once you get down to playing the player and not the cards, the game will really open up for you.

Go through your HH from a SnG.
Convert the hands you're involved in.
Fill in observations on relavant other players from the inbetween hands.
Type your thoughts on the hands you played.
Post it - in the 1-table tournament forum.

So simple! So fruitful! So 2 + 2!

Best,

McMelchior (Johan)

If you want, I'll sweat you in a tourny and give you any comments I might have afterward. I think I could learn something from that kind of thing too.
I'm no expert, but I'll do it free of charge.

It would have to be next week at the earliest though since I'm LSAT crammin' this week.

EDIT: Just watched you in the 6+.5$ turbo. I really didn't like the open limp, especially with KJo and only 4 BBs.

Even tho you got unlucky here you lost the hand before the flop. With a raise he wouldn't call you with 9-4 and you could have taken the blinds there adding 300 to your 800 stack /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mate, if you play a few sng send the hand history files over to me and I will go through them with a bunch of comments for you.

Just as some advice, I notice that your low post count is similar to mine and you probably haven't posted many hands or asked for input yet. I highly recommend making use of the vast array of virtual "coaches" here on the 2+2 forums as much as possible. Start posting the hands that you have a hard time with. It will result in a lot of really interesting discussion about your play from which you can learn lots. Some of the most successful players post and read here regularly - and they do it for free. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

And beyond that, try and give advice on other posts so you can learn whether you would do the same this as our 'pros' would (Strassa, CSC, Bugstud, MLG, Shaniac, Sirio11, exitonly, Thetimeisup, Chief, Jurollo, the list goes on). I like to open up a thread, write down what I would do, and then check my answer versus those from the players I respect. It's helped a lot and has made me a smarter aggressive player I think.

Do you play a lot of satellites on Party under a name similar to "Toddy"? If so I think I've played with you several times lately. I don't remember exactly what notes/reads I had on you but I believe it was something to the effect of "decent player but exploitable".

If that was you and your interested, let me know and I'll go back through my pokertracker hands and try and give you my opinion on your play.
