Is it possible for it to be correct to fold AQo under the gun in a very tough game, where players are more apt to isolate you with medium and even small pocket pairs, and quick to three bet with any hand 88, 99, TT, JJ, QQ, KK, AA, and AK? In some very tough games, I frequently find my self out of position with a dominated hand. This frequently causes me to limp in with the hand, whether than raise with it, because I fear getting three-betted. However, limping with this kind of hand encourages multiway action which frequently causes me to lose with the hand anyway. So, the only solution I have come up with, is to fold AQo under the gun in games as tough as these.

no.

in addition, in a tight game you should leave. if you can't, you raise more hands. and different hands occasionally.

limping every time is a horrible move. maybe once in a while as a variation but a moneyloser over time.

no, you should raise. it is ok if you are to predictable to limp every so often, but with AQ you want to limit the field. if your having trouble, then the game might be to tough for you. i think you might want to switch games. good luck.

i'm at the stage when I worry about limping utg with AA because it's obvious I'm underplaying a monster, so I raise instead, so everyone folds because I've obviously got a monster. /images/graemlins/mad.gif

I don't mind limp-reraising with AA because by the time I get around to reraising there's a ton of money in the pot and I don't really care if they know what I have (I also limp-reraise with unexpected hands on rare occasions). They always seem to want to see the hand to really believe it anyway.

"In some very tough games, I frequently find my self out of position with a dominated hand."

This cant possibly be true. Tough games don't mean the players' cards are better. AQo simply figures to be the best hand (or best drawing hand to TP) the majority of the time and that's why we raise with it.

"players are more apt to isolate you with medium and even small pocket pairs"

Thank god for these players...it makes AQo even MORE profitable. Remember, you'll flop TPTK or a reasonable draw over 1/3 of the time so if you know they're range includes many PPs, you ought to be able to put this to good use post flop.

If you can't find an excuse to raise with AQo, then you need to find a better game, not a better hand.

But soon they will realize that you realize it and they will see your raises as hands you should've folded, and they will 3-bet to isolate.

Onto this thread: raise with AQo - limping with it is just not good.

Never. You play in Detoit. In the thousands of hours I've put in at the Detroit Casinos, I can't think of any game that could ever be this tough.

"...players are more apt to isolate you with medium and even small pocket pairs, and quick to three bet with any hand 88, 99, TT, JJ, QQ, KK, AA, and AK"

Cap it after they isolate you and come out firing on the flop. Let them know that trying to pick on you is going to be expensive. I guarantee you'll start picking up more pots after you miss, and the board has two overs to their pair or AK. This works well if you have a tight image, plus you'll get more action on your bigger hands when they see you play this way as it makes you less readable.

So what. You'll find yourself out of position with a better hand quite often too. Plus it gives cover to your bigger pairs.

Recap: No games are this tough. Raise AQo UTG.
