Tonight's show will be the return of low limit poker, being 8-16 limit. Last Friday's game had about 2 hours of not much happening poker until the appearance of former MTG professional Ben Rubin, who took over the table the last hour winning a couple of large pots. Who knows who'll turn up tonight, so head to www.liveatthebike.com (http://www.liveatthebike.com) from 6-9pm PT to follow the action.

Haven't seen a limit game in a while. I need practice with this anyway. Time to stop playing 2-4 at B&M and step up. Boy - People weren't kidding when they said 8-16 isn't that much harder than the lower limits. Just people with more $!!

Was 30/60 now available tonight? If you're going to call a 8/16 game "Bingo", why bother?

All the classic wrong pre flop decisions. Ax, any two suited, anything from the SB. I love it.

The PPT on ESPN isn't a done deal yet, as the Travel Channel is suing WPTE.

With a classic 10% max rake up to $4 (East coast) - what game starts to be more profitable with regard to rake? I'll just assume as you go up in limits the rake effect dwindles accordingly. And at what limits do most casinos start taking time charges.

PPT mostly has the top players, but allows the casinos to invite about five players, and also WPT announcers.

Good lord, the guy who had the winning full house didn't raise? yikes.

09-26-2005, 09:39 PM
The guy with K 10 was all in. He 4 bet the flop. What I don't understand is how the guy with the set of 6's didn't go apeshit raising his hand. he could have at least got a little money back out of a side pot with the flopped straight.

Kevmath

WPTE put up the 500k for each of the 5 PPT events.
There were up to 18 exemptions (8 casino, 10 WPTE)
They only paid 6 people.
The final table was usually 10 days after the first two days of the PPT event were held.
Reading the reports of the PPT, it seemed they were set up to at least have a televised table during the event, setting up for multiple shows for each PPT tournament.

Who got into the PPT in the beginning:

There are 1, 2 and 3 year cards given out (like a PGA Tour card)

3 year cards are given to:

All WPT Tournament winners
All WSOP ME winners
Anyone who has made more than one WPT final table in the same season
Top 10 in the WPT POTY standings in season 2
Top 3 at the WPT 25K Championship
Top 3 at the 2003/2004 WSOP ME
Top 10 in Card Player's POTY standings in 2002/2003
Top 10 on Phil Hellmuth's COTY standings 2002/2003
Members of the Poker Hall of Fame
Members of the WPT Walk of Fame
Winning a PPT event
Make more than one PPT final table in a year

2 year cards go to:
4th-6th at the WPT 25k Championship
4th-6th at the WSOP ME in 2003/2004

1,2,3 year cards went to players selected by the PPT Advisory Committee, WPT announcers and the the 10 on Casino Europa's 2004 list or if you make a PPT final table or have a high ranking on the WPT season 3 money list for following PPT seasons (if any).

To maintain your PPT card, you have to play at least 2 of the 5 events as well as at least 50% of WPT events.

That's completely different from the PPT.

By the way, how bad is it that celebrities are able to play for a $1m prize pool (for charity) in the next season of Celebrity Poker Showdown, but it's like pulling teeth for any pros to have money added to their prize pool?

Actually, it's not bad at all. CPS is playing for charity so that looks good for sponsers whereas giving money away to degenerate gamblers doesn't look good. Although I guess you could make the case that it's charity to some of the poker players.

This is going to be great! He is raising and betting blind.
He is either really, really, really good (like the next Prahlad) or he is a complete moron. I'm leaning toward the latter.

change that to the next Joe Cassidy - this is limit.

Maybe Bart can get interviewed by ESPN.com for L@TB

Seems like Big Mike's gonna donk it up with his 2k.

I've changed my mind. Big Mike bought into the game with fraternity money, and they are all watching him to see how fast he can lose it on purpose! It's a frat prank.

09-26-2005, 10:42 PM
I love how every time seat 1 loses a pot when he holds a monster hand, he turns over his cards in disbelief, like he can't believe that he lost....yet, he fails to put money in the pot, or raise bets to drive out the draws.

perfect way to play limit poker. i need to remember to stock up on fish hooks and worms before my next trip to L.A.

Just started watching.

I have played against several of these players before.

Imagine 10-20 total games this size($8-16 and $9-18) with this sort of player going at the same time at clubs all within 20 minute drive of each other. Every Friday and Saturday night in Los Angeles area

09-26-2005, 10:45 PM
I don't usually post here but I just have to tonight. These people suck at poker!

So unbelievably bad that its actually making me a little mad. Bart also said that some of them were pissed about how Big Mike is in the game. Its obvious that these people don't like money.

I'll say it again...exceptionally bad tonight. Heinous really.

Shirlz: the point of keeping the pot small on the flop and making a double bet on the turn isn't necessarily to make them *fold*... it's to give them worse odds to call draws on the turn and thereby hopefully have them putting money in with improper pot odds.

cwsiggy

Even if the people don't fold, you are still mispricing them which makes you more money in the long run. yes, they will suck out on you, but when they don't hit, you are making more money. In other words, you are essentially on the other side of the equation of "calling without proper pot odds"

This game reminds me of every game I've ever sat in while out in CA (Commerce or Bike). I could never see a flop for less than 3 bets.

It would be great if I could play the games often, but when you're just in town on business, the variance can be a female dog.

And it's not just limited to LA. I'm currently in San Jose on business and was at Bay 101 last night.

Every pot was 8-9 handed (I was the lone folder most times) and the pot was at least 2 or 3-bet. Add a little no flop EVER hitting my hand and I'll bet you can guess how my night went.
