You could thank them for the compliment.

I don't have this problem.

I buy it totally and lose all my money as I have become so more confident of myself.

I have a problem with my constant cynicism. It causes me no end of problems. So, I tend to be wary. Yes, I've had it said to me. Not often! /images/graemlins/frown.gif

I gauge the sincerity of the alledged compliment by the person it's coming from. If he/she is someone I've seen play, and I respect their play, I'm flattered.

If it's from someone I don't know, I watch them more carefully than I have been and then decide if they were sincere or trying to get inside my head.

It depends where it's said. If someone you respect tells you that you're a good player away from the table you just thank him.

If he tells you during a game I think you should try to deflect it by saying you're just getting lucky or something like that. You don't want the other players to become wary of you.

If it's said as a snide remark because I just sucked out in a hand I usually make some idiot remark about how I saw the situation developing in the hand and the more stupid the remark the better.

My standard response is always: "I'm just lucky sometimes. The good players are __ and ___", naming the local pros.

At the table?

"Nah I've just been hittin cards for a month straight" or "Yea well I'm down like 600 bucks this month." I know it's said not to whine about your losing at the table as people will try and stick it to you, being the loser, but if you're playing your solid jovial A game I'm pretty sure it gives me more action because they assume something I'm doing must be wrong.

I play HU sngs alot and I will often tell the other guy that he is good and better than I am if he is knocking me around. Sometimes they will let up a little. This is at the $5 level however.

At the table, I say "naw I'm just getting lucky"

Outside the table "thanks".

Don't want to show what's under the sheep clothes at the table.
