I am ready to try some low limit hold'em at Foxwoods in CT, but I am unsure as what to expect. I am an average player (in my opinion)that is killing my home game and I am looking to see how I compare against better players.

I would appreciate it if someone could give me some insight as to what to expect at Foxwoods. I would like to go during the week, most likely in the afternoon. What limit could I expect, and how hard would it be to get into a game? Generally, are the players friendly (you know, at least having a sociable nature, as I don't care to play with uptight a-holes that blow a gasket when they lose)? I have been contemplating this for a while, but for a perennial home player, the jump to the casino can be intimidating. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I played 4/8 and 5/10 (with a kill) at Foxwoods this past weekend. Compared to online games, Foxwoods games are:

-- Slightly looser (on average...it can vary)
-- Much (much, much, much) more passive
-- Much less tricky

To illustrate the passivity and lack of trickiness:

-- During an entire weekend I was not checkraised or semi-bluffed once
-- If the second or third flop card paired or the third flush card came and a player bet out, he had my top pair beaten every time but once
-- Very few players bet with or pumped draws
-- Very few players raised for free cards

Go in assuming that players bet when the have it and check when they don't and you'll be much better prepared. It is difficult to get used to such straightforwardness after having played online.

To answer your other questions:

Limits - 2/4, 4/8, 5/10 (with a kill), 10/20.....

Players - Fairly nice, definitely not rude. They will all seem like saints compared to online players

Thanks for the reply. I have never played online. I thougth about it, but something about playing poker when you can't see the other players just doesn't seem right.

I was a little surprised to read that the Foxwoods players "bet when they have it and check when they don't". I figured that you would have a lot of people playing extremely loose, hoping for the river card to make their hand. I had planned on playing a tight game, at least until I got some experience.

Again, thanks for the response. I am really itching to go play.

They do play loose...they bet when they have it and check (and then call a bet) when they don't. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif
