View Full Version : Any chick flicks you like?

Yep - it's true, there's some birds' films I like. 3, in fact.

Brdiget Jones' Diary, Fried Green Tomatoes, and my favourite: 'Ghost'.

Any you like? If not, if you absolutely had to sit through one, what one would it be?

I watched Hitch last night and thought it was ok.

I don't think Hitch is a chick flick at all. It's more of a guy flick with a bit of chick stuff thrown in. I think it tells a lot more from the guys side of the story, although there is the whole romantic plot thing I suppose.

I think Ghost is pretty damn good for a chick flick. I liked "A Walk To Remember" when I saw it, not sure if that means I suck or not. As I posted in another thread, "My Sassy Girl" is a cool asian chick flick.

Unfortunately as a child I had to watch Steel Magnolias several dozen times with my mother and her friends when they'd bring it around to the house. Isn't that considered child abuse in most states? I don't think you could pay me to sit through that crap.

Oh, that's wincing bad.

I think you need to force her to watch Commando or Cobra several dozen times in a row now.

When I went to see this, I was sitting near the front to one side, on an end seat, pretty much on view to the whole cinema. In trying to get a stuck cup out of the cupholder on the seat, I stuck my finger through the bottom of the cup, and the pint of coke then proceeded to slowly dribble all over the floor (it was in a quiet bit, so the whole cinema could hear the running water sound), and then a trail of liquid ran downwards towards the screen frontage from my seat, in plain sight of everyone. The cup remained stuck and immovable.

There's nothing like having a cinema full of people thinking you've just pissed yourself in front of them.

I'm gonna sound so gay, but I'm going to try and minimize that if at all possible...

During a really great trip back in high school, we watched My Best Friend's Wedding. So now whenever I see it on tv, it reminds me of that trip, and I end up watching it due to nostalgia.

My gf is also a huge fan of all the teeny-bopper-chick-flick movies. The most tolerable one I've sat through is A Cinderella Story. I actually was entertained. Some of the others have been absolutely excruciating, though.

wtf.

Is any movie involving romance considered a chick flick? What's the definition?

My favorite chick flick is Bridget Jones's Diary. Renee Zellwedger is insanely good/hilarious in it.

something I've been pondering as well. by this definition, casablanca is a chick flick, so I'd have to pick that. takes it to the next level, even, since the guy doesn't get the girl.

Goodfellas is a chick flick and I will explain why.

Half of the movie is told from the woman's perspective and her view of her topsy-tursy marriage to Henry Hill. Women love this stuff, rich and powerful tragic men who cheat on their wives. They get off on this drama.

They used to play this movie on Lifetime 3 times a week. Why would it be on Lifetime if it wasn't a chick flick?

I don't agree. Just because the star is a chick or it doesn't have car chases and explosions doesn't make it a chick flick.

This is just getting absurd. Having a woman involved as more than eye candy doesn't make it a chick flick.

Blarg
09-27-2005, 12:13 AM
I'll nominate one I like -- Mean Girls.

It's a cross between a chick flick and a teen comedy, but I think its exclusive concentrations on chicks and chick social stuff makes it a chick flick, even though it's not one of those moody soap operas or extended tea parties that chicks like.

I confess I like it for un-chick reasons, not because it touches my soul and makes me want to get in touch with my inner weenie. This chick flick has very cute chicks! It's also funny.

The ending is completely unbelievable, though, because it's so unmotivated. Girl everyone hates suddenly becomes girl everyone likes, with no real transition. Oh well, chicks dig happy endings.
