Personally, I find that most players play AK very poorly, in lower buy in MTTs. Something about the fact that they have the best ace high, gets them excited or something. What other hands do you guys see misplayed a lot?

Mid Pocket pairs (like 99-TT).. I see lots of people just calling with these hands after a couple people have limped in

Also the usual.. people overvaluing KQ, KJ, AJ, and all the other trap hands..

Also a lot of people misplay high PP and try to get fancy by limping in.. then complain how they got a bad beat, kind of ironic

I think people call raises with AJ too much. It's a terrible hand if you follow the Gap Concept and it only leads to trouble when you hit a jack high flop and get taken out by a person holding KK or QQ.

Yeah, I give a vote for these TPMK type hands (especially qj + kj). Lots of times you'll see lp folks get pwned when they hit top pair vs. an ep AJ/AQ type limper.

yep AJ is awful to call raise with.. even if I target the person as a loose player, I always throw it away anyway because I know it's gonna lead to all sorts of problems.. if I hit the ace I dunno if that's good or bad news.. sometimes i'll even let go of AQ against a super conservative player that has only entered a couple pots

I agree AK is the most often misplayed hand and I too have difficulty with it at times. So, now that there seems to be some agreement on this, does anyone have any thoughts/advice/epiphanies how to play it?

AQs is up there for me...

but yea i probably agree that it's AKo.

09-24-2005, 05:19 PM
AQ...so many play it EXACTLY like AK when it is nowhere NEAR AK.

AA or KK

I'd say QT anywhere and mid connectors in the sb. Aside from the fact that so many people play them as if they are premium starting hands when they have no business being in the hand in the first place, I always see them being misplayed the most post flop as it always goes along these lines:

Example -- Blinds at 50/100
Button QT -- Folded to button, opens for 300
SB 89 -- Loose player, calls 250.
BB KA -- Super tight player, raises to 600

Button calls, SB calls.

Flop comes JTQ

SB goes all in for 1200, BB calls. Button re-raises to 3400 all-in. BB calls.

Among every poker player - ragged aces or facecards
Among 2+2'ers - AQ, AJ, & KQ

I hear the AJ...even I have trouble playing this one (what am i saying? I'm not that good to start with)

I see so many people misplay AA.

Slow play it, then pay off huge bets on the river.

The board could be 6 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif 7 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif 8 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif 9 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif 9 /images/graemlins/spade.gif

and there could be 100 in the pot from the min betting the whole way, and they will call 1500 on the river with A /images/graemlins/spade.gif A/images/graemlins/club.gif

Man I love it.

I see people misplay so many hands worse than calling all-in with AK on a ragged flop.

It has to be KQ. People especially love to call raises with KQs because it looks so pretty.

Hands that add up to 20 at the blackjack table.

Ironically, these are the same hands most misplayed at limit poker as well.

That's not when people misplay AK.

Preflop it's AA. All the way through it's AK. During the course of the hand it's top pair, mediocre kicker (read: 2nd on down).

I'nm drunk and can't be bothered to read the respponses but without a doubt the donks see AK and have to go all-in even if there was a raise, re-reraise, all-in vbefore they act, damen donks.

Aces,(and KK?). Aces are probably the most misplayed hand in low buy in MTT's. Too many people try to get fancy and limp in, or check the flop..etc.
also face cards are so overplayed(KQs), it's ridiculous.
How about high buy in MTT's? what's misplayed "up there?"

09-25-2005, 02:42 AM
Pocket [censored] jacks.. been my bust hand in the last 2 tournaments, and played them awfully throughout

SixgunSam

AQ has to be the worst because people play it as badly as they play AK and it's actually a worse hand.

Queens have been killing me lately, but I don't think that's common.

I mean... in lower buy in MTTs? Most misplayed? How about "all of them"?

Ax offsuit.

ansky451

Heres my take.

In low buy in (<50) MTTs, people play AJ, AQ way too strong, and can never seem to fold TPTK, or TPGK. The real donkeys also get attached to 2 cards over 9... especially KTo it seems, lol.

In middle buy in (50-200) type tournaments it seems people really misplay AK, and JJ. They "hate jacks" so they will put huuuge amounts in preflop, I guess not to see a flop. Sort of a similar thing with AK, especially when they are out of position. Very often it is easy to spot a weak CB with AKo.

In high buy in MTTs, in my experience with the 300s on stars, 100 rebuys, and the WCOOP events, the mid-high pairs seem to be of the most trouble. 99 TT JJ. I think this makes sense. They are better than the baby pairs, so you don't play them exclusively for set value, and often get into trouble against overpairs.

I think for me, I misplay QQ too often. It seems when I fold it preflop to a lot of action, they always have AK or JJ, and when I call... well, you know.

I'm quite sure the title on this thread isn't "What hand have you been losing a lot with lately?"

Man the quality of the responses in this thread have now reached an all-time low, and now possibly rival the mid-high forum.
